PVL Whey Protein Products

I still can't figure it out as this is a completely new subject to me!

Not taking into account which container is bigger or which one costs more/less... The difference between the Mutant Mass and the Whey Maxx confuses me.

How can two products of similar value have such vastly different properties e.g,

Whey Maxx:

Container: 10 Lbs

One Serving: 1 Scoop (34g)

Servings Per Container: 140

Although the sites I looked at for this product did not read how many serving you should have per day, or even when you should have them.

Mutant Mass:

Container: 15 Lbs

One Serving: 4Scoops(260g)

Servings Per Container: 26

Directions: Mix 4 scoops of Mutant Mass with 16-32 fl. oz. (480-960 ml) of water, twice a day; drink one shake first thing in the morning and the second immediately after training, or whenever you want an extra shot of protein.

Even if you took into account the size difference (10lb vs. 15lb), that would still be around 210 serving compared to 26?! And from what I can gather, you need alot more of the Mutant Mass to equal the Maxx which has about 8 times the amount of servings in it!

...And the difference in serving sizes?!

I must be missing something here.

I was set on trying out Mutant Mass until I saw the Whey Maxx, now I don't know which one to get.

Help please?

Without actually looking up each product, it's probably because of this,

Whey Max will be 80 or 90% protein, so is a protein powder, WPI or WPC

Mutant mass will be a mass gainer, maybe 20-30% protein, 50-60% carbs and 10-20% fat.

Mass gainers and used when in bulk phase just to get heaps of Cals into your system in a very short time.

Protein powders are to get protein into your system, that leaves the Cal intake in your own hands as far as Carbs and Fat go.

As you can see from the break down Mutant Mass has x10 the calories and x2 the protein of PVL whey. If you are on a bulk and want to gain some size you would take a mass gainer otherwise just the plain old protein powder.

Guys on this board seem to reckon not to bother with Mass gainers and just add some oats to your protein shake for the extra calories instead as it works out cheaper, but it's up to you if you have the spare $ you could buy the mass.

My husband takes True mass by Syntha6 and he reckons it's great. PVL do do a good protein powder I have had the Whey one before and it's a good day to day one, I haven't tried the Mutant Mass before but I have only heard good things about it- apart from the mutant ass jokes!

Hope that's helpful?

Thanks for the replies! That cleared things up abit.

I really just want to add mass for now, so I guess the Mutant Mass may be the better one for me to try first. At least until I can figure out how to properly supplement the calories for the Whey Maxx.

It's my first go at this so i'm going to try the Mutant Mass with Isatest and a Creatine (once I can figure out a decent/suitable one. NFS Kre-Alkalyn or EAS Phosphagen?).

I'm ectomorphic and am looking to gain some lean mass and strength.

Would the above be suitable and would they clash if taken together?

The Mutant Ass isnt the cheapest so I just had it on workout days and stuck with my regular protein shakes on non workout days.

The Isatest is ok but I would probably not bother with it and spend the money on food.

I am on Phosphagen at the moment and you cant go wrong.

i took mutant mass when i was getting back into training. i used 2 scoops in about 250ml of water immediately after training and another 2 scoops in water during the day (depending on what time i was training).

taste was ok, mixed a bit lumpy in a shaker though(tasted really good and mixed better with skim milk) was also taking pvl nox stac pre workout, balance recovery stack after workout, glutamine and tyrosine spaced through the day.

monitored my diet for a month on these supplements i averaged 3300cals for this period (some days were better than others) because i had had a big lay off i managed to put on 6kg in the month.

would definately recommend mutant mass if on a bulk no easier way i can think of to get over 1000 extra cals into your diet!

also used pvl whey maxx (choc flavour) this tased even better and mixed 100% with water in a shaker tasted good in milk as well.

  • 1 month later...

What confuses me about the PVL Products is the difference between Monster MAXX and Mutant Mass.

As far as i can tell, it seems that Mutant Mass has the Isostack 10 protein as opposed to whey protein, but i was wondering if there were any other differences. (there is a small difference between calories, and fats, but they are mostly the same)
