How much water is too much??

If you're exercising regularly 4.5 to 6 Litres a day should be alright. If you're not drinking enough water you generally feel a bit tired, probably don't perform too well in training, and may get head aches etc. You'd have to drink a lot more than that to drink too much so I would worry too much about that.

As far as fluid retention (if you have fluid retention) that is normally caused by too much sodium and salt in your diet, or if not drinking enough water, however you're drinking plenty so that shouldn't be an issue, or a health issue.

If you do have bad fluid retention or oedema, and you are drinking plenty of fluids and following a low sodium diet then you may have some other underlying health problem so you would be best to go see your doctor if that is the case.

Thanks for that.

I will persevere for a while and see how it goes. I am very healthy and don't add salt to the diet. The only change I have had is wearing body armour at work and in this heat it makes you sweat like crazy hence the increase in water to compensate for the sweating.

If you don't have salt in your diet you will end up peeing more.

Some salt is good as it acts as transport in your system. Depending on the diet, people can end up with iodine deficiencies, something iodised salt remedied many decades ago.

Yeah whats the deal with table salt? I wouldnt exactly say Im a saltaholic but I dont avoid it. And I drink about 5-6L water per day

If you are on a high sodium diet - i.e lots of fish / beef / soy / added sodium etc your body will try to flush it out using water.

If you don't take enough water your body will still try to do this - which usually results in dehydration ... headaches / nausea etc.

4 - 6L should be fine as has already been stated.

How much is too much? It is very hard to over hydrate - the only case i know of recentlyish, was the girl that colapsed at a club on Krd some years ago. (died shortly after) The media dressed it up as an ecstacy overdose but the actual cause of death was overhydration, which caused her brain to swell etc. There may be others however, but I do know it is very rare ....

During my last show prep I was taking 10 - 12L per day for the 10 days leading up to the wednesday before the event. Then I switched to low sodium on the Thursday and drop my intake by 50% / same again Friday and then only 1L on the day of the show. Worked extremely well for me.

I can drink tons on mondays when I go and I buy a lil fizzy drink from the supermarket. 2 Raspberry flavoured $1.80 bottles at 1.25 litres each bottle is what I get. Think the makers of the drink is scwhepps, but don't quote me on that.

But if you were wanting to build muscle, there's a freakin clue right there - fizz is a body killer! Read the lable, then think about how much weight you'd have to lift to burn off those calories.

Drink water - its cheaper AND you get bigger/leaner faster.

I'm not calorie smart. I saw a tiny bit of that nz tv show, about weightloss with that personal trainer named leeann. She kept saying it would take hours of excercise to burn off just a few calories.

Do I really have to stop eating the things I like?

I mean on the brightside more money in the bank.

ARGH FINE from now on no more fizzy mondays and chips and donoughts mondays  bye bye my favourite day of the week

I don't have the bottle with me but I find this online.

Raspberry Ginger Ale (Schweppes)

Serving Size: 1 can; Calories: 140, Total Fat: 0g, Carbs: 38g, Protein:

Keep in mind I'm drinking alot more than a can.

YES you do have to stop eating things like that.

Think, eat, and train a little more logically mate - things like that shouldn't really even be a question for you, its common sense that those things do not help you grow (or cut) at all.
