Protein Intake - Does it matter how?

Was wondering if you reckon it matters how you get your protein - the general rule obviously is between 2-3g of protein per kilo of body weight per day - which is sweet - but does it matter how you get that protein? What if you got all you protein from shakes and maybe one or two meals a day? Obviously there are benefits to eating - faster metabolism for one, but that's not what I'm asking? Any thoughts?

A question probably better suited to the nutrition section. I don't believe it is vital but shakes are meant to be a supplement and there are many documented benefits to whole food sources of protein as the "main" source of protein. That is only an opinion because I have known a top competitor that does use shakes as his main source of protein and I would not scoff at his achievements. But that poses the question "could he have done even better utilizing more whole food sources of protein" Try different plans and see what your body responds the best to, because everyone is different and you can only put theories to the test and see what is right for you.
