Why drink 5 litres a day. You only need a certain amount and there is no advantage in overloading the system. As long as your urine is not dark then you are drinking enough.

It also makes it harder to digest food if you are continually diluting stomach acid with heaps of water. Going to the toiley every 20 minutes is a bit crazy don't you think.

My nutritionist tells me 2L of liquid a day is fine, and that's 2L overall liquid (including tea, milk, juice etc). that whole X litres of pure water/day is marketing BS created by water purifier companies ;) you get stacks of water through the food you eat, this is especially true for bodybuilders who eat truckloads.

2L a day is definitely better than the average, you could be taking in more, personally I just try to take in 400-500ml per meal, which is usually 6/7meals so works out to around ~3L a day, however quite often ill have a glass here and there in between, it's nice to have, healthy and free!

is your nutritionist actually qualified or do they just manage the local protein shop at the gym?

there are plenty of advantages - one of the main ones being to flush out all the toxins etc that are formed from eating lots of protein and training

and diluting stomach acids is a rumour.

Free radicals, my friend 'are' considered 'toxic' and are not rare in the body.

Look these up in google. Im sure you will find the human body absorbs these all day, which is why you will find 'anti-oxidant' protection is a must for any athlete.

The sunlight, car fumes, working out, among many others all create free radicals within the body. These can potentially lead to leaving permanent chunks out of your cells, which in turn leads them to duplicate over and over. You compound this over the year's and you have yourself one very unhealthy looking cell and probably person. You're cell's make up your entire body. Muscles, blood, hair, skin, so why would you not protect them?

If we are 90% water, it only makes sense to drink plenty of it. And 'flush' out free radicals by using some potent anti-oxidants. I use AstaZan, it's unlike any other antioxidant as it also helps with sun protection and exercise recovery.

It's active throughout the entire body, the unique structure allows it to pass the "blood-brain barrier", meaning it can deliver antioxidant benefits directly to the brain, eyes and nervous system as well as the rest of the body. It also helps recycle other antioxidants including vitamin E, beta carotene, lycopene and glutathione – switching them back “on” and prolonging their functional life.

Cheers!

Nick i'm not sure what your point is mate. Antioxidants re-oxidise blood cells - I agree, use of anti oxidants is required to stop your red cells from clumping together. An increase in water would definately increase their effectiveness - but I don't see how drink lots passes them from your body. The detox diet has been proven contreverial or not, ineffective so many times.

My point is, drinking a load of water will not flush toxins from your body, but rather help anti-oxidants fight off free radicals. ie. like you mentioned above ;)
