im a baker, and i used to order it from a company called bakels, though its called acti-white, used for mereinges, pavs.

also you can actually buy 2 litre bottles of straight, natural egg white, ive used this in the past for baking aswell - but they come in a box of 6 bottles and im not sure if they would sell straight to public...

Eggcel says their 5kg bag is 1300 eggs.

For me, the liquid eggwhites from Eggcel worked out about the same $ cost as a trayful from New World...sure, I was losing all the yolks, but weighed that up against the convenience of not having to cook raw egg whites before eating, and wasn't having to waste time and gas to go to Moore Wilsons or some other wholesaler to buy cheap eggs.

for anyone that is interested Leith Distributors in dunedin sell 4kg containers of liquid egg whites for $22.64 retail. you need to order it a day or two in advance.

That's a good price - are they frozen/pasteurised, or 'raw' (i.e. you should cook them before eating) ?

That's a good price - are they frozen/pasteurised, or 'raw' (i.e. you should cook them before eating) ?

lady on the phone wasn't too sure, they cook with them so i would imagine that they are "raw", but a quick phone call to them could possibly clear this up

I use the Eggcell powder in pancakes - 15g eggwhite powder, 15g whey, 15g oats and a pinch of baking powder - a little water and they make the yummiest pancakes! sometimes I add blueberries, cherries etc. Breakfast almost every day :P

Eggwhite omlettes - ~20g of powder, whizz it up with a hand mixer. SO much better than wasting all those yolks - add fresh herbs and some low fat cheese and you are in there :o

crepes - same recipe as pancakes but without the oats, just add more water and pour a thin layer onto a super-hot skillet and fill with sludge of choice.

so is egg protein powder better then whey isolate?

Eggs = slow absorbing

Isolate = fast

Think its 1 cup of egg whites = 25g protein

How can that be/?

Half the protein in a egg is contained in the yolk

a egg has 6-7 gms..lets say 6 for simplicity

so 3 grams only in the white....so thats 25/3... thats rougly 8 eggs compard to one scoop of good powder lol

There is more in the white...not much more

I get around 8 egg whites in a cup...spose i depends on the size of your eggs also
