My niece has severe asthma, she was having a very hard time just breathing normally,as a last resort the doctor prescibed her some steroids(I dont know which one),I asked my cousin why the doc prescibed a 4 year old steroids, she said the doctor told her for some unknown reason they seem to work sometimes.Anyway I saw my niece last week and she's doing fine now.

I was Just wondering whats the rationale behind this method of treatment,or has anyone else heard of this before?

Prednisone isnt an anabolic steroid.steroid yes anabolic no.

Actually its very catabolic to muscle so if you are a serious BBer try to avoid prednisone. Its often prescribed in a short sharp dose for chronic asthma.

i usually get prescribed it for when i get chest infections that dont want to go away.due to working outdoors and breathing in al kinds of shit.

I keep on getting Prendisone for the past year for a skin conditition by my GP, it worked fine temporarily.

in the end went to a specialist who put me on some charcoal based cream for Psoriasis. All very managable. I didn't notice any adverse effects of the Prendisone though.

maybe I was lucky.

It may not have impacted on you MK because you are in such good condition. What dose did he have you on? A year is a long time to be using prednisone. Some people I know that are long term users have ended up with all sorts of wasting type issues & bad infections. Do a google on prednisone side effects. THere are some interesting stories.

It was off and on over the year for about 10 days at a time, it seemed like it was every month or two. Worked very well, but when I finished the course it (the Psoraisis) would come back, heard some nasty effects form the doc other than catabolism.

I was only on 1 pil a day so don't recall what dose that was, but it wasn't very high.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got a allergic reaction to a sleeping medication(amytriptyline) I started taking last Friday, yesterday I started getting severe itching, welts all over my body, and my hands and throat were very swollen. The welts and rashes were spreading very fast and as I could not sleep,I went to the hospital 2:30 am this morning. The doctor gave me some prednisolone and these other pills to stop the itching, within 1 hour after taking the prednisolone the swelling and pain in my hands and throat was much reduced.

Woke up this morning and pain was gone.Have to take prednisolone 2 more days.I never knew steroids like prednisolone had such powerful effects.
