Massage

Managed to sneak away for a xmas break this year and treated myself to a massage. Not the "special" type either before someone says it :pfft:

Anyway the woman who massaged me said she did a lot of bodybuilders and she recommended they visit her once a week. While that seems a tad excessive to me I wouldn't mind a visit once a month to get some kinks out. Just wondering who out there uses a massause on a regular basis?

By the way it took her an hour just to loosen up my neck, shoulders and back a bit. Apparently my legs are poo'd as well but we ran out of time

I use one every 4 weeks for relaxation, not into deep tissue stuff at all I can't lie still when someone is causing me pain.

We get through the whole hour and do entire body except for front chest never gets done but legs do (front and back), as does arms and the usual back, shoulders treatment too.

Room lights are dimmed, little bit of oil and music, followed by bliss.

Closer to a comp I went every 2 weeks to treat myself for losing fat and to relax. Don't go if you've worked out that day or done back the day before, muscles are too tight to soften up my massage girl says (as she pants and groans she gets a good workout on me :-) ). I think the day after a rest day but before a workout is best.

I get massaged twice a week when im training hard (f*ck it hurts) one day upper one day lower. getting legs done is crazy sore!!

I would guess due to the pain its deep tissue you get done? You obviously notice the benefits?

Do you get a girl or guy to do it? The best masage I had was from a guy, stronger hands helps I reckon....all I need is a woman with mens hands to be perfect :pfft:

I am getting a deep tissue every 2 weeks while i am training hard once per week would be nice but it comes a bit down to $$$. I use a guy here in chch who is awesome but when i have use his wife although half his size is just as good. i think a women can give as good a DTM as long as she is strong.

it absloutly makes a difference. If you are training hard, you want to use massage activly not reactivly other wise you are waisting presious trainin time getting over injuries that you could have prevented.

Ronnie Colman i beleive use to get DTM every day.

I pay $70 per hr, but i wouldnt pay that unless you were getting real value.

I pay $1 every minute so $30 for 30 mins, $20 for 20 mins, and if I get two half hours then they call it a hour and that means $30 x 2=$60 so $60 = 2 half hours or 1 hour depending on how you look at it. Or even $15 = 15 mins so 4 x 15=60 so $60 will get you 1 hour, 2 half hours or even 4 quarters of an hour. It really comes down to how much loose change I have in my car.

But on Wednesdays I pay $54 for a 3 hour session. Sometimes I reach double figures on Wednesdays.

I used to get a DTM every week, but that was becaus I knew the person and would ge it really cheap or free. I think a guywould be better for strength and depth of massage... but it just seems right with a lady.

I saw that RonnieColeman oneon one of his dvd's - that looked crazy 'cause the guy literally sperates all the muscles - ouch!

I reckon its great plus crazy sore - i found my calves the most painful part, you get as much of a workout trying to fight the pain as you woulda full leg workout - it used to make me sweat!

Hey guys, I had never got a massage done in my life before. But was thinking about it after this post. Where a good place you recommend in Auckland, which is not too much $$$ and what type of massage i need to get? (not talking about the dodgy one:) Thanks.

I went along for a free ‘try before you buy’ DTM with a massage therapist. She asked about my weight training history and when I last had a massage. I’d never had one before. She looked worried, I felt nervous.

She said BBs often have small muscle injuries that manifest as a muscle spasm. A spasm feels like tightness in the muscles in the area, and is sometimes painful. A few weeks later, as a result of the spasm, you end up with a muscle knot. Muscle knots are abnormal areas within the muscle, which cause pain. If you get a bunch of these together that cause pain, the medical term is myofascial trigger points.

The knots form because the spasm keeps the muscle continuously 'on'. Normally, no muscle is working continuously. Instead, as you lift weights, different muscles cycle on and off. The spasm makes the muscle work continuously, around the clock. The muscles are not designed for this continuous work. And after some amount of time the muscle overloads and forms these knots.

You get a build up of knots and it slows muscles growth in that area, or the muscle grows around the knot and can pull the surrounding muscles out of alignment.

She said let’s take a look at your back. So it was back for 60 minutes. And what do you know? I had muscle knots, and lots of them. She estimated my back would take a 30 minute visit each week for six months.

And as she worked on a couple of knots I quickly decided that it hurt so much that I would never go back. She rubbed on some deep heat and I staggered home for an emergency recovery sleep.
