For all those interested in purchasing Protein Powder in bulk...

DAVIS TRADING

ph (09)574 2250

This company supplies 20kg bags of Whey Protein Concentrate(approx 80% protein) or Whey Protein Isolate (approx 92% protein).

The quotes I received:-

WPC - $195 + GST + Freight

WPI - $406 + GST + Freight

By my calculations, WPC = $11.65 per kg & WPI= $23.15 per kg

Thanks for that. Have any of you had experience in flavouring this plain stuff? What would you recommend?

well you can either be a man and suck it up. or you could add some milo or something for "flavour"

Ive tried non-flavoured isolate before, i didnt bother with flavouring it myself, the taste was unique but i soon got used to it, i dont really see anything wrong with flavouring it, if your going to then just use the classic flavouring options.

Just remember there are varing degrees of whey concentrate and at the costs you quote the degrees are bad, as the a good whey costs around 30% more per kilo at manufacture cost from fonterra, so the whey they use has to be of a poorer grade, which means less digestability, just a tip!

I got my 20kg bag back at the end of July. My flatmate & I are sharing it and we are probably 1/2 to 2/3 through the bag (my flatmate gave a few ice-cream containers away to her mates as samples  ).

In my opinion this protein was best value for money if you are just looking for a protein source. However if you are consuming 3+ shakes a day the taste can become a little sickening and you may have to find ways to make the flavour more palatable. :) I just bought a 5lb tub of Dymatize protein powder (choc mint flavour) and have been using the two powders in my shakes - another economical way.

By all means if money is an issue and you find yourself consuming commercial protein powders at an alarming rate I would not hesitate to recommend the purchase of this product.

I hope my (brief) opinion helps you to decide if it is worthwhile for you to pursue this avenue! :D

If you have a look at Trueprotein.com, they also sell protein in bulk. However they have artificial sweetners available as an additive. You could possibly source this to make it tast better? Just a thought.

I think I'll give a bag of the isolate a try next time I need to order.

Thanks
