For reference I always review my protein mixed with chilled water in a shaker with nothing added or in a blender with ice and water

Taste - This is a very nice chocolate flavor. Its not like chocolate milk like the EAS Chocolate and its less cocoa-y than SciVation chocolate, (although not necessarily better) this truly is the flavor of the chocolate thick shake you get from the ice cream place, it tastes like you have blended it with ice cream and milk not just water!! I'm pretty sure blending this with milk and ice would fool anyone into thinking it was a real thick shake it's that epic.

10/10

Sweetness - The sweetness is perfect! I do have a sweet tooth though so I can imagine some people may find it bordering on too sweet.

10/10

Texture - This stuff is awesome. I don't know if its because I blended it with slightly less water than I would normally but it came out like a thick shake. I love thick shake. I'd give it a 10.5 if I could :D

10/10

Nutrient Profile - Like Syntha 6 Banana flavour the only thing that bothers me about this protein powder is the carbohydrate serving in it. I'm on a really low carbohydrate diet at the moment and would prefer less carbohydrates but I am willing to sacrifice the carbohydrate for the taste of this stuff! Syntha 6 also has 5g of fiber in it, that's 20% of your RDI!! Very very impressed.

It also is the first "slow release" protein powder I have tried so really an excellent choice for before bed and daytime shakes.

* Sustained Release (up to 8 hours of amino acid nitrogen delivery)

* Multi-Functional A.M.-P.M. Protein Blend

* 6 Different Ultra-Premium Proteins (nutritionally complete/complete amino acid profiles)

* Active Protein Utilization Enzymes (Aminogen® and Papain)

* Branched-Chain Amino Acids and Essential and Non-Essential Amino Acids

* Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs), a fast-burning energy source

* Glutamine Peptides

* Great Source of Fiber

* Aspartame Free

* 7 'ridiculously' delicious flavors

9/10

Mixability - Mixes well, the powder is very fine and there was only a few lumps left on the side of the blender

8/10

Smell in packet - Smell is strange but not unpleasant in the pack, kind of smells like a powdered version of some weird cadbury Christmas treat I had a few years back

7/10

Smell in shake - Smells like a chocolate milk. Definitely tastes more impressive than the smell.

7.5/10

Cost - This is definitely not cheap cheap, but in my mind it is a premium protein powder and as with most things you get what you pay for. I don't know any other protein powder that tastes this good, is slow release and has fiber in it.

7/10

Side Effects - None so far

9/10

Overall 8.6/10 I have a tub of this which is awesome. I try not to drink it all the time because if I have 3 shakes a day that's 45g of carbohydrates, compared with something like EAS or SciVation or even ON with 3 shakes totaling less than 10g. 9/10 on taste alone.

If you are looking for a great tasting slow release protein powder this or Syntha 6 Banana would be it.

Better flavors in this brand I have tried - I'm not saying it's better but the banana flavor is very very nice too.

Tricky question. For me if I liked banana flavored things I would say the banana would be better. but because I don't really I'm gonna have to go with chocolate...ohh.. I don't know!! Banana!! Yeah that's really a hard question. I think I'm gonna have to go with banana.

If people would like to spend that amount of money for a good taste then that's their decision. But as far as a time release protein goes.. You're better just to buy yourself, wpi,wpc,wp casein, and egg albumein. Then take the lot in one go. :pfft: :pfft:

If you are having regular meals daily, i don't see the point of having a time release protein if you're getting protein in every meal. :grin:

there is research showing that whey and casein taken together post workout have a greater effect than just whey. and casein is great just before bed. so really you can get an extended release protein or a WPI/WPC and casein separate then mix them together. guess its up to the individual really.

I do love a good Syntha6 shake tho :nod:

Sounds nice, but I assume it would taste nice since it's basically a meal replacement rather than a protein powder. 44g per serve and only half of that from protein (the majority being whey), and the rest from carbs and fat. Like Kiwi above, I'm curious as to what makes up the carbs ( the only carbs that jump out at me on the ingredients list is "corn syrup solids" but surely that can't be the majority of it).

I'm with nicksmith3 and jesses on this, If I wanted time release I'd just buy some casein and add it to the whey I assume most people will already have, and if I wanted an equal amount of carbs like a meal replacement I'd add some oats to the shake.

All that being said, if it's about taste and convenience then fair enough. And the truth be told, if it tastes as nice as the reviews say, I'd probably be tempted to pick up a tub too if I saw it for a decent price.

Yes the carbs are high.

15g per serve, 5g of that is fibre.

10g remaining : of that 2g is sugar, 8g of mystery carbs :D

And seriously, it tastes so good if you have a problem with the makeup you are best to stay away from it, because you will have a hard time using anything else...

Depending on the quality of the whey and casein they'd be carbs in both of those plus the corn syrup solids in the Sunflower oil powder would provide some carbs/sugars.

The main carbs look like they come from the Litesse (polydextrose), which is a low GI and low calorie sweetener (1cal/g) and thickener used to replace both fat and carbs. It's also providing the 5g of dietary fibre.

That good huh? and no I don't have a problem with meal replacement type shakes, they have their place, but I usually use 1.5 to 2 scoops of protein to get a 30 - 40 grams of protein per serve so doubling the carbs and fat would add up. If it tastes that nice maybe I'd have it as an occassional shake, just not my main protein source.

Have you tried Muscle Milk, Laura? It has a similar macro profile to Syntha 6 (gram for gram, they have different serving sizes) minus the egg protein, but a higher amount of the protein seems to come from casein. From all accounts it's supposed to taste amazing.

Keep up the reviews, you've saved me from one or two horrible whey flavours I was near to trying. Still trying to find where to get that ON Chocolate Malt from, I can only find it in one of those multi-flavour tester packs.

Cheers for the info Flex, you're a wealth of knowledge, doesn't seem to be too many questions unanswered when you're around.
