For reference I always review my protein mixed with chilled water in a shaker with nothing added.

Taste - I was very disappointed. First mouthful I thought this could be ok, got a slight hit of an icecream taste but after that just tasted like slightly watered down milk with a teeny hint of vanilla. This is the first vanilla protein powder I have tried and I hope there are better ones out there. The whole shake was drinkable though. I was expecting it to taste similar to ON Cookies and Cream without the cookies, wrong, cookies and cream is far nicer.

4/10

Sweetness - by far too bland for me. I have a real sweet tooth and this had no where near enough sweetness

2/10

Texture - Quite thin, had to remind myself this was not watered down milk

3/10

Nutrient Profile - As with most of the other flavours in ON 100% Whey there is 120 calories per scoop and when you are getting a flavour hit like this I am more than happy with the calories, and with only 1 gram of fat per serving and 4g of carbs it is still very low carb friendly.

7/10

Mixability - Mixed extremely well with a few quick shakes no lumps at all or anything stuck to the sides of the shaker.

9/10

Smell in packet - Smell was ok nothing outstanding but pleasant

5/10

Smell in shake - Very similar to in pack, nothing outstanding but not offputting either.

5/10

Cost - This seems to be one of the more reasonable "nice" proteins out there

6/10

Side Effects - I found this upset my stomach more than most protein powders. Bloated.

2/10

Overall 4.7/10 Would not buy again.

Better flavours in this brand I have tried - Cookies and Cream

This is the best product on the market IMO.

However Vanilla is easily the worst of the lot. Steer clear unless you are going to add coffee to it, then its actually pretty good.

I wouldn't say its the best, many people are questioning the quality of the protein in it but it is up there with value for money. And yes lucky I just had a sample pack of vanilla hehe.

I only say the best because of its numerous awards, its value for money (BCAAs ect included) and the fact that since I've been using it I have had the best results of any protein.

I say flag the vanilla and get cookies and cream and you will love it.

I thought the on nutrition website was some kind of piss take! Is it an actual company?

I copied this from the site - it cracks me up!

Welcome to World of JEGO Solutions Ltd. - High Performance Food

The company has been Established 1996 in Europe with goal to give active people full support in quality and price of sport supplements.

Today we have hundreds of supplement companies, few of better once we had in our program back in Europe. After years of successful trading with all those companies, we have build good knowledge regarding sport supplements and even better, we have tried all of them on our selves.

When we moved to New Zealand, we made decision to keep working with only the best once and we started with Optimum Nutrition and there complex range of products, because after years and years of trading and consuming all possible brands and products in the world we have seen that only O.N. and ABB are most trustworthy brand, with best quality products and best possible prices.

huh?

yep, Jego

JEGO [jego@ihug.co.nz]

he's a good guy, the NZ distributor of On, so top prices too.

http://www.onnutrition.co.nz

I've just been to this website...wtf?! These guys are the NZ distributors and they don't have stock of the 100% Whey 5lb!!! And the price is the most expensive out there. I've bought this product recently from http://www.nutratech.co.nz for $98.50. That's more than $20 cheaper! I think they're a joke. The website looks cheap and unprofessional.

Ok, so it’s a crap website but give the guy a break!

He’s probably sweating that he won’t be able to feed his family six months from now because he’s competing against products made right here in New Zealand at a time when:

- He’s paying a fortune to freight huge heavy jars of protein powder all the way from the other side of the world;

- Customs and duty charges are massive;

- Dairy prices are at an all time high,

- He’s only getting 50 US cents to his dollar,

- New Zealand is in recession and no one has any money, and

- He is paying fees to distribute his product and tax.

New Zealand has tight and expensive quality controls and high labour costs.

Much cheaper to transport whey protein made in China to the USA, package it with an American brand, and transport it around the world through distribution agents than to buy from Fonterra and package it here.
