Nabba Universe in Mumbai Cancelled

The Nabba Universe was scheduled for 29th November in Mumbai,India.. Most athletes were going to arrive on Wednesday 26th. Due to lack of organisation, the Universe Champs were cancelled, which was fortunate as the attacks started Wednesday night. At best the champs would have been cancelled and the worst would have involved casualties.

Nabba New Zealand has become isolated from most countries as in 2001 they split from the other Nabba and in 2006 many of their affiliates left to form a new organisation called NAC. this was to stop confusion about having two separate organisations called Nabba.

Unfortunately it has now downgraded International competitions for Nabba New Zealand which has been highlighted by our athletes cleaning up at the World's and Universe over the last 2 years.

It was bad that the Universe was cancelled but it ended up being the best thing.

Yes Graeme Lancefield said he would welcome anyone from New Zealand and I know of at least one Nabba competitor planning on doing Aussie Nationals and

then the Universe in Southport,England. Their World's are in Slovakia in June with qualifier in Gold Coast at the end of May. It is quite confusing doing a google for Nabba and getting two federations.

Lady luck was on the side of NABBA with the cancellation of the universe. However having 3 friends that were ment to be competing and had been building up for that show it was rediculas to even consider running an event like that in such a place. Most of NABBA/NAC are europian countries spain greece germany france etc, if you want to have a show with depth of competitors then have the events where or near where the athletes live. i have been to world and universe events when spain turns up with 30 or 40 athletes. because they only have to travel a few hours. wil they get those number if they have to fly to asia/india? NO! unforntunatly for us in NZ it means great travel time and expence but id rather that than a cheap short flight to a show that is suppost to be world class and compete against 30% of the people that would normally be at the event. the sooner some on in NZ takes the stand and re afiliates NABBA with the real NABBA UK the better for the sport and for the NZ athletes

I agree Mike. However, Jim Pitt did bring Nabba to NZ, so I cannot see him handing over the reigns to anyone, anytime soon. It would take a very strong willed person to do that - and for all the right reasons as well. If it does happen, let's hope that NZ can realign itself with Nabba/UK, if and when, who knows, but a changing of the guard is definitely long overdue.

Jim and marryann are lovley people but for the good of the sport it is obvious the link to nabba/nac and lopze is not working the international shows are getting smaller and smaller and the presedent of nabba can't even attend many of the show due to his drug and criminal convictions ( the underliying cause for the nabba split). Is this really the the nabba NZ should be alighed with. Hey when it comes down to it I'm obviously 100% IFBB. But for my nabba friends it upsets me.

The other Nabba Worlds are in Slovakia and one of our members is going to compete for Australia. Another competitor is doing the Universe in Southport. They will be doing a qualifier in Australia and have been in contact with Graeme Lancefield.

You are right the Mumbai Universe was never going to be a goer as Europeans will not travel . Be interesting to see where Jim goes for the World's as it can only be Spain or maybe Greece.

The UK Nabba Worlds and Universe are true competitions and I would be rapt to get in the top 6. Our events have turned into a farce with the latest one being a cancelled Universe. The real Universe in Southport has never been cancelled.

Also, our Pro-Am is an International event but the last time anyone came from overseas was at least 5 years ago.
