HOT TOPIC: Questions for the NZFBB

Recommended Posts

NZFBB President Mark Stewart has agreed to answer 10 questions from members of this forum.

There are some topics he can't comment much on - some specifics of members' drug test results, for instance, are confidential. He can, however, talk broadly about the processes and procedures involved. He will do his best to fully answer everything else.

I'll send the questions off next Friday (29 July). So what do you want to know?!

If the NZFBB is in trouble financially, assuming the main source of income is from sponsorship, how can you possibly keep your sponsors happy with minimal levels of participation and promotion of your showcase events? How are you going to increase competitor numbers/promote your shows and make the NZFBB an attractive proposition for future sponsors?

I have a question, following the latest article in the Herald:

The federation refuses to make the outcome public, but it is revealed in drug-testing results released by the New Zealand Sports Drug Agency this week.

What has prevented the Federation from releasing the outcome of Moe's tribunal? Why was no comment made in response to Moe's earlier statement that no penalty had been imposed - particularly if this statement was false?

I WAS HAVING A THINK ABOUT THE ABILITY OF THE NZFBB'S MEMBERS TO ATTEND THE AGM'S AND AM WONDERING ON WAYS THAT THEY MAY BE ABLE TO FORWARD A VOTING ABILITY FOR MOTIONS TO BE PASSED WITHOUT MEMBERS BEING PRESENT, MAYBE AN ONLINE VERSION OF THE WEBSITE. THAT WOULD HAVE ENABLED A PROPER VOTE ON MOE'S MOTION ABOUT DRUG TESTING....

ANY ONE ELSE HAVE THOUGHTS ON THIS???

I like the idea of online voting however it has many problems associated with it. Perhaps official voting forms that you can pass to a judge as an absentia vote? In addition, the motion regarding drug testing had to be dropped as the seconder of the motion wasn't even a member of the NZFBB and can not second a motion to the AGM. It seems however from the responses received by the NZFBB on the matter that there was over 70% in opposition to removing the drug testing - I, as a competitor am pleased - i like to know that i can compete in a federation in New Zealand that requires their athletes to be drug free! Keep up the awsome work NZFBB committee - the hard work will pay off, especially for those competitors who are committed to the sport.

11)It took over 8 months for the situation of a Failed drug test to surface via a leak to the media,WHY?

12) The leak to the media has been reported to have come via a NZFBB committe member! Has the NZFBB committe done anything to find out whom the leak was made, and acted upon the NZFBB constitution clause 5.7a?

13) In the NZFBB AGM minutes it states that Mark Stewart is assiting the federation , and useing his own money to keep the federation afloat.Where in fact at the AGM this practise was questioned and said to be not a acceptable practise to be undertaking as no one was overseeing the invoiceing and repayments of this practise by Mr Stewart, why was this missing from this statement in the minutes?

14)For the past 3-4 years there has been a noticeable decline in support and positiveness with the sport of BB in NZ, Why havent the NZFBB committe had the foresight to see this and act upon this?

Sorry I was up to question 10 when the computer droped them all, I will do some more questions now!

Well, there were quite a few concerns, and they're all slightly different! So I've grouped them into 4 broad questions with summaries, but left your specific queries in as well, so Mark can see exactly where to direct his answer. Thoughts/comments? Speak now, or forever hold your peace!

===============================================

Decline in popularity of bodybuilding

- How did this happen?

- What is being done to fix the problem?

For the past 3-4 years there has been a noticeable decline in support and popularity of BB in NZ. Why haven't the NZFBB committee had the foresight to see this and act upon it?

What levels of promotion are they planning on undertaking? Many members have noted a large lack of posters, advertising, or event promotion.

NZFBB Finances

- What is the current financial situation of the NZFBB?

- How did it get into such difficulties?

- What steps have been taken to solve the problem, and what timeframe is this expected to take?

Has the NZFBB developed a plan for the getting out of the financial trouble that it is in at the moment? How far away is this projected financial independence, and what are they going to do to prevent this happening again?

If the NZFBB is in trouble financially, assuming the main source of income is from sponsorship, how can you possibly keep your sponsors happy with minimal levels of participation and promotion of your showcase events? How are you going to increase competitor numbers/promote your shows and make the NZFBB an attractive proposition for future sponsors?

At the AGM all questions raised about the debt went unanswered and were refused to be addressed. Why? The debt was obviously known previously to the AGM and yet no plan was offered to combat such a debt and situation. Why?

Due to the financial state of the IFBB, has all athlete funding been suspended? If not, why?

Drug testing

- Please explain the NZFBB's response to the recent situation in the media.

The NZ Herald says, "The federation refuses to make the outcome public, but it is revealed in drug-testing results released by the New Zealand Sports Drug Agency this week." What has prevented the Federation from releasing the outcome of Moe's tribunal? Why was no comment made in response to Moe's earlier statement that no penalty had been imposed - particularly if this statement was false?

The outcome of the SPARC tribunal hearing, re drug test and Moe Moussaoui could not have had any bearing on Moe whatsoever, considering his Pro status. This was known by the NZFBB prior to the hearing, yet the NZFBB spent funds it did not have to fly committee members up from ChCh to be present. Why?

It took over 8 months for the situation of a Failed drug test to surface via a leak to the media. WHY?

The leak to the media has been reported to have come via a NZFBB committee member! Has the NZFBB committee done anything to find out by whom the leak was made, and acted upon the NZFBB constitution clause 5.7a?

Procedural / specific questions:

In accordance to the NZFBB constitution clause 22.3b all payments, funds and expenditure are to be co-signed by 2 Executive committee members. This has not been happening. Why?

A unapproved credit card has been used to make NZFBB payments on all types of expenditure, then been refunded without proper procedure in accordance to the above. Why?

The NZFBB AGM minutes state that Mark Stewart is assisting the Federation, and using his own money to keep the Federation afloat. In fact, at the AGM this practise was questioned and deemed unacceptable as no one was overseeing the invoicing and repayments of this practise by Mr Stewart. Why was this missing from the statement in the minutes?

At the 2004 Nationals, a team was picked to go to the 2005 Worlds against committee advice. Why?

The sponsorship of a NZFBB show by a known Steroid clinic went without any attention by the committee, even after sponsor and member complaints. Why?

Hey I note that the NZFBB President hasn,t replyed to the questions every one submitted like he said he would, It has been a week, all of the questions I would have thought would have been able to be answered straight away,I mean he did say he would answer them didnt he ??, or have I missed something ?

Apparently all the questions are answered in a newsletter to be sent out to NZFBB members, and I believe this is being printed now. I did suggest an interim response, simply stating the answers would be coming soon, but that hasn't come through yet.

I'd like to publish the newsletter here, but I'm not sure how that will go down. I'll work on it, though...

Everyone who fails a drug test in the NZFBB were to have their name and Offending drug published. This used to happen where the names were published in the NZFBB newsletter. There have been several positives in the last few years but no mention of who the people are. Why now the coverup and not sticking to the rules? Otherwise why bother testing at all?

My guess is that the questions will all be screened by the Federation lawyer as it has taken ages to respond to your fairly simple inquiries.I believe they will be answered by him.Watch for the terminology used.
