RICE

Don't know if this is the appropriate place for this or not but...

I'm not a particularly medically minded person and from my limited knowledge about the human body I'm wondering about the RICE system after injuries. I know what it is before anyone explains that, but what I don't get is the reasoning behind it....from my understanding, more blood flow to an area means that it will heal faster. but every part of RICE is trying to prevent blood flow to the area....what am I missing??

The initial icing minimises inflamation response.

Good article on a more proactive way of dealing with acute injuries on http://www.elitefts.com called "Why RICE sucks". Check the archived articles.

Hey Nate

Read that article a while back, I do it with my niggles light stretch then Ice it about 3-5 times a day works well. Then after a week or so Soft Tissue work, Foam Roller. I use to rest the niggles but it would take longer to heal, but now it does not interupt the training, which is the main thing.
