Elbow Injury - Arm Wrestling

CutTaBits

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Im just looking for some advice.

On Friday night i gave into my mates and gave a few of them an arm wrestle. They always want to have a go at me because i train hard and they call me muscles. The last time i gave them a go it buggered up my elbow i thought it was because of the arthritis i have in my right arm (i'm right handed) This time i done it with my left. It was a bit sore on saturday & sunday. But I went to training last night and had to give up, the pain was to much.

So...

What muscle do you think i have torn?

What is the injury called?

Is it common?

I brought some Voltaren Emulgel. Any good?

Any help would be good. I train every weekday and this driving me crazy.

:(

Thank You

i dont know much about this sort of thing but i would just REST. take the week off. its better in the long run to get over this now. if it is not better in a week of no training, you might want to see some sort of medical person

this is a reason i never arm wrestle anyone, mates always ask me and im like nah dont want injuries. they always laugh but its true

Hey CTB, arm wrestling is for Sylvester Stallone and others that drive trucks don't ya know! When you look at your elbow, does the pain come from the inside or outside of the elbow? It can be a case of really irritating the origins of your forearm flexors. In more mild injuries, some physios call it tennis elbow or golfers elbow. Voltaren gel will be quite good for superficial pain relief, although that won't fix it, it'll just mask it. Some physios would tell you to lay off said arm for quite some time, or, when working out, strapping the point where it hurts and applying pressure when doing so. That tends to lessen the pain some what. I'd advise a bit of physio, and lying about how you did the injury, so you can get a bit of tax back from Auntie Helen and Uncle Michael at the labour government.

Ha ha YES it was with truck drivers. They all unfit and drink every weekend. I hardly ever go out. I live in a small town and there is not alot of 6ft 100kg bodybuilders here.

Its hard to say where the pain is coming from last night it felt like the whole elbow was burning. its not a sharp pain but a pain that makes it weak. :?

Gee how long is quite some time?

Rest that arm mate, for as long as it takes.

I speak from bitter experience here - I've been dealing with an elbow injury for nearly 20 years. When I first got it, I didn't rest it much and just kept training on it - until I really stuffed the tendon.

I was off training for nearly 18 months as far as I can remember and nothing except long term rest did anything to sort it out - not even the dreaded cortisone shots. It's flared up again and again over the years.

Hopefully, you've just got a muscle strain and it wont take long to clear up. The Voltaren Emulgel works reasonably well on some injuries but I usually take some mild non steroidal anti inflammatories for a few days after I pick up an injury...nurofen works quite well for me. After the first few days, I use lots of heat to get blood into the area and speed up the healing. Massage is also very effective depending on the nature of the injury. If it doesn't clear up soon, maybe seeing a physio is a worthwhile idea?

Yer guess i shall rest it.

Hi there CTB,

I've had my fair share of lower extremity injuries over the years, and while I cannot tell you what your specific problem is, I'd try Rest, Ice, and Voltaren.

It may just be an inflamed bursa; and hopefully a week will see you right.

If it ain't right by next week I'd see a Doctor.

Remember when icing, --- no longer than about 15 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day, and have a thin cloth between skin and ice pack to stop ice burn.

:)
