Travelling overseas with supplements

I'm going to Aussie in a week and a half, and I was wondering whether you can bring (opened) supplements in without hassle?

My guess is that even if you're allowed it would be more hassle than it's worth getting it checked etc. If anyone else knows otherwise I'd like to hear from you. Otherwise I guess I'll be buying some powder while I'm over there.

My view - maybe capsules/ tablets might be worth the effort...they can be compared with catalogues for colour/manufacturer/marking to check, but opened packs of mysterious powder is probably a recipe for the sound of a snapping rubber glove and a goooood inspection.

I'd not bother as far as protein powder's concerned - I've found in the places I've been there's shops like GNC Livewell, healthfood shops in most malls, and major supermarkets carry small tubs of whey. I paid $AUD 20 for a 20-serve tub a couple of weeks back...not isolate, nothing flash, but a read of the label showed it wasn't bad stuff.

ah my homeland, miss it but I bloody hate customs when I go back to Sydney!

Don't bother with any whey protein (except Balance cause it's made over there/here? I got it through anyway), strict quarantine rules on dairy products and also egg products. You can get Optimum nutrition over there as with dymatize. Redbak & Maxx are good brands too,

I'd be cautious with any fatburners as well, but I suppose most of the stuff banned over here is the likely banned there too.

If you are taking soy that's ok as it's a vege source.

Where are you going?

plenty of shops back in Aus (sydney and melbourne and even Wollongong :) though I wouldn't bother with GNC, I find them too overpriced and pushy sales people.

In Melbourne I'd recommend the Evelyn Faye in the CBD, but if you do a google search there are plenty of smaller shops which have cheap stuff. Actually evelyn faye are doing a sale until Sunday 11% off if you order on-line.

You can even get protein through coles, woolies and some pharmacies, like musashi and aussie bodies.

Flag open protein, anything banned (open or not). Go to local supps store over here and ask for some sample packets of protein and take those if your only going for a short time. Other than that just take the correct amount of supps you need in a spare container and don't bring any back.

I do this every time I travel (its allot) and have never had any problems.
