Kia ora koutou my name is tamati im a dirty filthy student in dunedin and have recently rekindled my passion for lifiting weights after a 2 year stint being a typical scarfie. Im thinking of maybe training my ass off for a year and then entering a bodybuilding show obviously i dont expect to win but would be nice to do well, any bodybuilders out there wanna give me an estimate as to how long i should train before i enter? im currently 5ft 11 and about 100kgs and 24% bodyfat - disgusting i know . any help would be appreciated.

Hi T

Competition season is 8 or 9 months away.

Sounds like you had a decent build before the student life kicked in so if you really went at it hard, ate right, took all the right supps and Bodybuilding became your religion it is possible you could be ready to step out on stage and not embarrass yourself.

However perhaps you might want to consider training for the following season. A good year and a half or serious training and you will be well prepared.

Just remember - Muscles are made in the kitchen not the gym!!!

Kia ora, Tamati. I think it's doable - just. It's probably a good idea to aim for a comp towards the end of 2009 though.

Regardless of when you end up competing, it's the same path you need to walk anyway. So my advice is train your arse off, clean up your diet, and see how far and how fast that takes you before choosing your competition.

Hey Tamati,

I'm in the "its doable" club. I was in a similar position as you but decided I wanted to compete in February looking at an Oct show. Lost 17kg and bf went from 20% down to 7.5% over 9 months. And I also have to agree its in the kitchen where the hard yards are done

Just do it!! you will never learn as much about bodybuilding as you will learn from doing a show! I wish i haden't waited so long to compete :? i would be so far head of where i am now.

Get some good help!!! Do it proply and spend some money....... Dont just get some harry from the gym or some PT with a flash peice of paper (no offence to anyone) to help you............... but someone who has been there and done it

have fun
