Hello! If you don't drink any caffeine then the caffeine pills might kick your butt at first! Depending on what sort but they are usually quite high in caffeine and can make you feel a little shaky at first until you get used to the amount of caffeine in them, if you take them late in the arvo the may keep you awake too. If you don't want to go down the caffeine line how about eating some carbs before a workout? Or even energy gel- I do alot of running so eat energy gel or even a banana and honey sandwhich if totally pooped before heading out.

The more experienced BB's might have better suggestions!.........

The Australian Institute of Sport has a protocol for using caffeine, and it was a surprising high dosage, although it looks like they're lloking at it again.

From the site:

Traditional protocols for the use of caffeine involve the intake of caffeine one hour prior to the event, in doses equivalent to ~ 6 mg/kg (e.g. 300-500 mg for a typical athlete).

There is new evidence, at least from studies involving prolonged exercise lasting 60 minutes or longer, that beneficial effects from caffeine intake occur at small-moderate levels of intake (1-3 mg/kg BM or 70-150 mg caffeine), when caffeine is taken at a variety of times (before and/or throughout exercise, or towards the end of exercise when the athlete is becoming fatigued).

Furthermore, there is no evidence of a dose-response relationship to caffeine - that is, performance benefits do not increase with increases in the caffeine dose.

6 nodoz for me prior to a PLing comp (based on the earlier protocol) was enough to wake my sh*t up!!

hello all, just thought id update you all, i just got backfrom the gym, having had my first try of a supp i bought on nzmuscle.co.nz called superpump250, and it was the best workout ive ever had. though i took a full dose as opposed to the recommended half dose, this revved me up so much that i found it hard to rest between sets! i really feel like ive found the missing piece of the puzzle, it was leg day and i could barely walk properly out of the gym, i had to hold the handrail to get down the stairs!!!

this superpump is now gonna be a gym day certainty from now on, gives a really good pump too!! thanks all for your advice re the caffiene, after today i dont think i need any more stimulants, im still amped!

ps also did a pb with my squats!! woohoo

Yeah I use NODOZ before I play sport (play competitively and want all the help I can get). Found it helps with lessening the feeling of fatigue (maybe just the placebo effect?) if the right dosage is taken.

Well done on the pb! obviously no need for the pills!

I'd figure out why you are fatigued by the afternoon. Are you eating the right foods, and enough of them? Getting 8 hours sleep? Instead of getting rid of the symptom why not fix the problem?

Yes

Underlying issues need to be addressed, caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that forces your adrenal glands to release adrenaline the hormone in which your body requires for a rapid flight or fight response this is very stressful to the body and when you overuse stimulants the adrenals become stressed, not to mention severe blood sugar swings, acid imbalances and mineral depletion. Its very easy to become addictive to these sorts of stimulants.

Certainly not trying to use scare tacticsI just think people need to know what they are getting themselves into, as we as a society are so conditioned to a "quick fix" solution sometimes blindly ignoring the consequences.Personally I think products like shotgun are a load of crap.

Just my 2 cents worth

Thank-you

I don't have any formal qualifications in nutrition but have learnt a ton through an immense amount of reading, correspondence courses, webinar"s and training clients.

I hope not to reflect myself as any expert on this forum, but rather we are equals here, knowledge is meant to be shared not bottled up.Nutrition is a huge passion of mine as I'm sure its the same you guys too.

Lets keep sharing, building one another up and make this place a knowledge fountain!

Yah Warriors won! :D
