Low Carb Chocolate Cake

Do you think it would be a good idea for me to have a slice of this cake (because it is my birthday on Friday) even though I am on a pre-contest diet. Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Low Carb Chocolate Cake

It is easy to make your own nut flour of almonds (good essential fatty acids source) or macadamia (good fat-to-carb ratio.) Just mill them in a coffee grinder or food processor.

4 eggs

1/2 cup sugar equivalent

1 cup almonds, coarsely chopped

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 Tbs almond flour

1 tsp baking soda

3 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder

Separate egg whites from yolks. In a blender, blend the whites and sweetener. Continuing blending, add the ingredients in this order: nuts, vanilla, flour, soda, yolks, and cocoa, blend for 2 minutes more. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Serving size = 1/6. About 3.5 g carb

Fat Burning Indexâ„¢ = 1.90*

* To be a fat burning food, it should have Fat Burning Indexâ„¢ above 1.5. These foods don't require counting carb grams or portion control even on a low carb diet.

Firstly Happy Birthday for Friday! It's mine in a couple of weeks too (we've got heaps at work, must be the best time to be born) and I'm also on a pre-contest diet now so I think one slice will definitely not sabotage all your hard work. It will probably do your metabolism good actually. Enjoy your birthday and don't miss out on that piece of cake for the sake of a few grams of fat.

I'll be having a "cheat meal" or two on my birthday.

Absolutely. One meal is not going to make or break your contest prep (assuming you're not just a few days out).

In fact, I went out to a restaurant for my birthday dinner, despite being precontest. I had a pretty clean meal (bascially steak and potatos), but I didn't ask them to leave anything out. Then I had a lemon merangue pie for dessert. (What? It's got eggs in, so it was high in protein!)

My advice? Forget this cake, go out for a meal you don't have to cook. Don't worry about what you're eating (within reason). Then come back to the diet with renewed energy.

Oh, and happy birthday. :)
