Share your training goals

Anyone want to post their training goals?

They could be over the short term or years away but I think it would be interesting and motivating to see what drives the people on this forum. I know some of you are training for contests right now but what about the rest of you - what drives you to get to the gym week after week?

For me, there are the obvious ones like putting on a fair amount of muscle and losing some more bodyfat as well as rehabilitating my long list of injuries.

I also aim to be able to lift 100kg for 8 reps on incline bench press and on close grip bench press.

Don't ask me why I've got a bee in my bonnet for these 2 exercises but for some reason, they are the ones that are on hit list right now. If I can do that by the end of the year, I'll be very happy to say the least!

That's me - what about you?

Execute this years K2 in under six hours....ooops, wrong website. Spot the ex-weightlifter who now rides a bike!

That sounds like a training goal to me, remember I am the ex-cyclist who now rides a weight bench

If only I knew what distance the K2 is. Care to elaborate?

Good idea. You will be able to achieve that goal. I find that if I keep a journal of my lifts each week, and increase them by 2.5kgs per week. I always achieve my target. I am 40kg away from my leg press target of 600kg 8 reps. I hope to be there by 1 November. 4 weeks ago I did 560 for 7 but had to stop, as I Strained my bicep. Yer I know my bicep sounds strange but true. As I griped the handles of the leg press I must have pulled with my arms and pushed with my legs. Only to slightly tear my Bicep Brachialis away from my Ulna (forearm bone) I haven't been able to train upper body since. My physio seems to think this week is a good time to start. We will have to see. Anyway that's my goal! Keep ya posted

Doesnt sound strange to me, i have a vice like grip on the handles when im on the press, sometimes it feels like im straining my arms more than my legs :pfft: Your lucky your legpress allows 600kg, the one at my gym only accomodates to 10pps (400kg)

Dude serious Leg press weight, excellent, you gotta lift heavy to grow, no such thing as a weak big man(big as in muscle not bodyfat).

the best I have ever done is 600kg!!!so if you crack that you will be a legend in your undies!!!, Ever been going so hard on the leg press you get a nose bleed from the pressure and force of the weight!!???, If not that could be a good goal to set yourself, cause you havent trained to you get a bleeder!!!

lol its a mirrical you guys can legpress anything holding the handles. talk about akward. i put my hands down the seat and hold onto where the 2 bits of the seat meet up. its about 1000% easier than trying to reach the handles.

my goals are

improve on each weeks workout.

increase my mental disapline.

incl press 45kg db (currently 38's)

cg 100kg

squat 4 plates atg for reps

bring up forearms

start blasting my calfs again now my tendon is fine

eat more

do some cardio

improve my chins (which are crap)

dl 4 plates for reps

bb row 2 plates (almost there)

have my legs rub together even more than they already do when i walk

improve back thickness

improve arms esp bis (worst bodypart ever)

dips with 3 plates for reps

i could go on

"To be forced to walk like a cowboy in order to prevent chafing"

For me, the elusive 92kg, while staying relatively lean. It's the 200lb mark. :D

 i alrdy have to walk kinda weird if i dont want my legs to rub

200lbs lean is a solid weight man.

at the moment, 90kg with 5% bodyfat, after that going on a max strength training phase, then a power / lactic-acid endurance phase, then a technique phase (lol).

ive got goals within each phase, e.g in the max strength phase 1-arm chins, 1-legged squats with 15kg, 1-arm pressups with 10kg. (those are relative to my strength at the mo, so ill probably have to change the values when i get there. at the mo, 83kg, 9% bf)

I'm proud to say I'm already in the club HRDCOR, like yourself. 280kg squats 2nd rep white shirt, look like a massacre. Everyone in the gym stopped a watched so I had to finish off 4 more. The guys thought it was cool, all the girls thought I was a animal. Funny that.

Know what you are saying, ways back as i was "getting there"I used to do this leg workout we called 1hr or 30!!, what we did is either squat for an hour or 30 sets ,what ever came up first!! this was a man finder of a workout, just set after set after set, going up to a 4 rep max, then coming down again the other side as your energy and will to survive declined!!, many times during this workout I had a bleeder or a vomit!!!, now survice to say that I never made many female freinds with this behaviour, but I had heaps of guys try to work out with me and not make the finish!!!

This year's K2 starts in Whitianga, and travels round the sealed roads of the Coromandel back to Whitianga. Some big hills, and 200km of racing. Have secretely been back in the gym getting some leg strength back up, am doing a bit of volume training 10x10 backsquat once or twice per week. Add to that stiff legged deadlifts 10x6 stiff leg dls and i'm pretty toast. I can;t ride fast on the flat, but chuck some hills in and I'm a happy shopper!

I reckon 200km is a damn solid ride, best of luck with that.

As for being happier in the hills than on the flat, I have only 1 thing to say to you - FREAK!
