Thoughts on City Fitness? [Newmarket]

Well I went tonight, nice gym actually - really spacious and clean etc, relatively good selection of weight equipment and a shit load of cardio. Seem to be lacking a bit in actual weight plates but the gear is new and solid and it was peak hour and pretty quiet which I like.

Yup lots of weedy guys, got some interesting looks doing squats and I wasn't even going heavy. Staff seem a bit lacking in knowledge too but that doesnt bother me either.

Yeah they have no joining fee at the moment but the price is still very high - especially as I really only want a 4-6 month membership. More than $20/week for 12 month contract.

Yah but will be making the most of the 7 day free trial thats fo sure ;)

CityFitness Newmarket is my new turf

Miss New Zealand goes there, so the standard of women is fairly high =P

Standard of men is pretty varied, but there's a fair sight few pretties there!

In all seriousness, CityFitness is the *only* gym that I've joined and actually gone to regularly - I like the feel of the place, staff are friendly, PT's know their stuff (as far as I know anyway!) and prices are reasonable - my work does a discount with ClubPhysical for $15 per week, and I'm only paying $15.92 for CityFitness!

I've finished a 2 week trial and while it's a nice gym, some friendly people and they have spin classes, they don't have enough hammer strength machines for me, or hack squat m/c, also not enough sets of dumbbells.

Also too many giggly girls and weedy wannabe guys.

Gym ettiquette an issue.

I hate when people have no regard for your workout, yeah just walk in front of me when I'm doing squats, good one numb nut!!! or don't replace weights i.e. 4 x plates on leg press for the next person.

Not my scene, I will return to my beloved Les Mills and Fitness First.

To be honest - the school girls/boys annoy me a little as well... I'm FAR from buff, but I'm there to lose fat & gain muscle - not to prattle on or hog machines that I'm not even using...

And the idea of restricting hours for schoolchildren has apparently been raised to managment, which I think is an excellent idea!

All I'm saying is that the locks were taken off the shower doors in the mens, and the bottom of the shower-door raised to about mid-calf for a reason :P

This is pure hearsay, but fairly reputable source lol

I can believe it. That goes on at more gyms than you'd think, too.

Which is why I always shower at home.

And never use the hot-tub.

I can find out for you if you want beast88, my partner is heading in today so I can get him to find out :)

From what I remember the dumbbells appear to go from light through to ridiculously heavy. At least from my point of view - I haven't gone over 10kg on a dumbbell yet
