I guess it depends how much sugar etc you need to drop Keats but I have always been a fan of 'natural' sugars on things ie throw in some canned fruit and mix it up, some low fat yoghurt or from time to time I put a teasppon of 'beeshit' aka honey in hot drinks to sweeten them....of course not at this pointin time....when Im sposed to be dieting lol

Ordered some Stevia as this is supposed to be a great product.

Be keen to hear your feedback on that bud. My mate told me it's "an acquired taste"

Stevia is a fantastic product. Not only is it natural, but it actually improves insulin function. If you find the powder or tablets to be a bit iffy on taste, then try the liquid version of it. Also different brands do have a slightly different taste - Nirvana do the tastiest one I find - liquid. You can get this brand from Naturally Healthy stores. I used to have 6 sugars in my coffee daily and then switched to sucryl, then moved on to stevia which I hated, but then went back to it a few months later with the different brand and now I prefer it more than sugar...and the good thing is you can cook with it also - some art sweetners become toxic when cooked.

Tried the stevia this morning, probably more of an aquired taste, made my morning coffee taste like chemicals. Will keep on with it and see if it becomes tolerable. Feeling like crap from no sugar, cant wait for it to pass as have a heavy leg session tonight.

haha harden up, you have like a year before you compete!

If I start positive changes now, be piece of "cake" when I go to cut.

That is quite true Keats. In my first year of competing (last year) I always ate cleanly but struggled with the pre comp diet. In this year previous in the lead up to the latest comps I have eaten very similar food content to the pre comp diet (but much larger amounts of course) and found it much easier at this time of things (less cravings)

Good attitude!! I'm trying that angle also! Except for last nights incredible pasta....kumara and bluecheese triangle pasta thing with parmesan and bacon... PastaMia...best place in Hamilton for a cheat meal!

Agave Nectar is a good sweetner - its got same cals as sugar but its low GI and has a cleaner feel than sugar - maybe a good sweetner for you to use in off season

If you start to cut out the sweetners slowly after a while you just don't miss them.

A year ago I was a full cream milk latte with 3 sugars girl, now it's plain black coffee and I can smell the sugar in other coffee's and think YUK!

I find the PP mixed with the eggs and oats in the morning makes it sweet enough, or else you could try fruit syrup or a tiny bit of Manuka honey.. at least that is good for you

I love oats but be careful with that Stevia – I’ve pasted a link to the Diabetes New Zealand position statement on Stevia below:

http://www.diabetes.org.nz/resources/do ... stevia.doc

And their summary:

In summary, it is not an approved additive in New Zealand and therefore can only be sold as a dietary supplement, and in Australia it would come under the Therapeutic Goods Act because of the claims it makes. With the concerns expressed by toxicologists about the possible health effects and the fact that only Japan in the world has approved its use in foods or as a sweetener, Diabetes New Zealand cannot advise anyone, with or without diabetes, to use the product.
