does drinking too much water cause you to lose body weight?

or is it the more the merrier? :P i Have slightly lost some weight in the past week and im not sure if its from the large amounts of water i have been drinking. about 3.5L a day

is it possible that all the excess water carries out your goodies? e.g nutrition etc?
