Most annoying gym habit

Hey guys I just want to see if this is a universal thing or not.

is it just me or is the most annoying thing that happens in a weight room is when people don't unload weights from the bars/machines when they are done. I have seen some women get completely turned off by weight training because they are stuck unloading a machine for 5 minutes. their has to be some other bad habits out there that we need to vent frustration over :)

Yeah that one usually gets me, i just dont get why you would load it up, do your thing and then just walk off.

Imagine if someone loaded up the legpress, 10pps and then walked off, it probabley wouldnt get used again that day.

Other than that nothing really gets on my wick, im pretty easy going.

yep that has to be right up there as far as annoying gym habits go, unfortunately these people are hard to train!! the other one of my favs is the malakas dropping weights from a height - is this just to get the females attention or what? haha

the louder the drop the bigger the weight eh ?? : :pfft: yeah that gets me too, i can understand it if they have completely failed and can;'t get it to the knees.

i nearly got done by a db that was loosened by regular dropping. doing a should press and the plates fell off one side. very lucky.

I had a guy come in the other day wearing jandels as his "closed foot wear" oddly enough he dropped a plate on his toe and split it open.

I drop the DBs everytime i do DB press, i cant not, i find if ive finished my set and put them back in the start position i cant physically get up with all that weight on my chest, ive tried to put them down slowely but that damn near leaves you with an injury!

The cretins who don't unload plates from machines are pretty annoying, as are those who put the 20kg plates on the rack where the 5kg plates live, so you have to drag off a bunch of 20s to get the 5s.

Also people who don't know what they are doing at gym - for example, check out this demonstration of perfect form on pulldowns - NOT!!

If you're doing Shoulder-DB-press, why not just brings your knees up and slowly lower the dumbbells on your quads, and then put them down on the ground? Same goes for if you're doing another set, why not just lift your quads up with the dumbbell?

sorry big guy, i meant that for the say shoulder press or db curl. the ex's where you're upright and they just drop. I know what you mean about say db chest. when i fail and i don't have a spotter i try to lower safely/slowly. managed to injur the bicep trying that once :/

what the hell is that guy doing in the gym and attached to a weight machine at the same time????/ :pfft:

Nah not talking about shoulder db presses, i manage to get those to the ground without a bang.

I also have had a chest injury when trying too hard to lower the weights to the ground without a bang, not worth it IMO, its up to the gym to perform maintanance on the DB's if theyre getting out of shape anyway, thats what we pay them for.

does anyone else have a mandatory \"poser" at their gym. i think i am lucky as i haven't seen any (apart from me of course  ) at mine. the ones who might come in for a token lift of weight look around talk to girls and then talk some more:)

Yeah 2 fellows at my gym who think their reincarnations of flex wheeler.

They weigh about 130 - 140 kg ( at a rough guess of about 25 - 30 % fat ) < bench 3 times a week and believe everyone ought to kiss their a$$es cause they can bench 130kg for 2 half reps.

AND THEY NEVER EVER EVER OFFLOAD THE PLATES ON THE BENCH.

it doesnt matter to me cause I dont flat bench, but still annoying to hear them stand around n gloat.

are these the same kind of guys that consider body building a strictly chest and bicep issue? do they do legs?

two at mine (not that much of a poser duo) never touch them. reasonable upper. calvs and quads like matches, looks rather funny actually :)

Guys Ive seen em all,you know what gets my goat, is the individuals whom get realy realy pissed with you when you ask them if you can work in with them on the machine or what ever!!I had one guy once( he was a absolute tosser)whom when I asked if i could work in with him on the machine between his sets? he replied Nah!, I asked him why not? ,and replyed cause im on it!!, I tried to point out the gym policy on this matter, but he refused to budge!, so i asked how many sets you got then?he said 50!(i kid you not)I said calmly, ah i dont think so and let me give you a tip 2000 sets wont help you so why dont you just give up now and save some energy for masterbation!!,he didnt like that and tempted to strike me whilst still sitting on the pec deck, it missed, but I didnt , and he took of bleeding from the nose!! I thought sh-t I bet im in trouble now and waited for the sh-t to hit the fan with the gym management! But it never came, I thought maybe tommorow, but nope, turns out he never complained and was only a casual any how, damm I hate casual machine hogging members!!!

Then there are the people who wander off with the pins and carabenas from the machines...

(Actually, the latest machines to arrive in my gym have the pins tied to the weight stack. Oh, how I laughed! :pfft:)

Quite a few of the machines at my gym have the pins attached with a coiled cord. I thought it was a bit odd at first but I haven't had to go and look for a pin yet, so it's quite a useful little innovation.

Strangely enough, they hide the wide grip pulldown bar behind the reception counter at my gym. If you want it, you ask for it and then have to bring it back when you're finished. :?

All your points are valid, put there is one you have all left out. I have travelled all over the world trained in Germany, Scotland, London, U.S, Oz

even Poland and every gym has one. I'm talking about the Smelly guy. The guy that wears has his favourite shirt every day for the last 10 years. Now don't get me wrong some of you may have a lucky squat or bench shirt. I know I have, but man I wash mine every week. But not smelly guy, when I was living in London I trained at the famous "Gennis" gym in Wimbledon. This guy reeked so bad you know when he's was training even before you saw him. At Christmas we gave him a shower pack and some spray on. He was so dumb, he didn't get the hint. OH and don't get me started on the sweaty guy, that dose cardio sweats it out for 1 hr and then wants to weights with no towel. That shits me.

I LOVE THE GUY WHO CAN'T WORK WITH OTHERS!

luckily it didn't come to blows though. saw him in the frame and asked if my trining partner and I could work in. he looked at me with complete disdain and said "how many of you are there".

Sarcasticaly said "50!"

he then said don't worry about it than stormed off in a huff. this guys a right tosser though, doesn't unload, drops weights for no reason, walks around like he owns the gym

Annoying gym habits:

guys that take 15min breaks between sets but wont let you use the bench he's on

guys that do drop sets and have half the DB rack at their feet

guys that superset and wont let you use the gear even though they are off doing another bodypart

guys that leave their towel on a bench and go off and talk to their mates for half an hour but get all upset if you try to move the towel and actually train

idiots that 'save' a piece of cardio equip for their mate who is off pumping himself up before he comes to do cardio

people that want to talk to you for more than a 'gidday' when you are in the middle of a massive set - subsequent pump loss..

dickheads that stare at you the whole time you are training as if they never saw weights being used

Ha Ha I guess a lot of stuff at the gym annoys me - but normally only when I am dieting :D

grinder what gym are you at? is it in Auckland?

pretty much all of those things are seen at mine. i have to agree they can all get my goat too, but more so when cutting and the subsequant grumpy mood that comes with it. :pfft:

Ha ha sounds like it could only be Auckland doesn't it!! I wish there was a hardcore only gym but apparently its not commercially viable.. Don't you wish there was a gym like golds from arnolds era?

I've seen this all before too and it really p**ses me off. I've only just started the competition diet! It's going to get a lot worse I think this time round too. Last time it was my first competition and I thought I was just overreacting so I let it be. This time, I'm training with a purpose (to look better than last time) so I won't be holding back on the comments!

The other habit that annoys me is seeing people do the same exercise day in day out only ever working one or two parts of their body. Do they not stop to think that's why they might still look the same??!!

Also those people that consistently perform their exercises using a techinique they must have made up (even though I've seen them with an instructor being shown before). Makes me want to slap them and tell them to come back when they no how to do it properly.

after a while you just dont bother, otherwise it can rebound on you and either you get told to get lost or they ask you for help everytime they see you in the gym. Ever seen a big guy thank a smaller guy for correcting his technique??

  • 4 weeks later...

we had a guy at the gym who came in every tuesday&thursday just before 6pm , he only used the treadmills & crosstrainers, as soon as the news came on the tv, he would turn it up and turn the music down,it use to piss me off everytime.what was even worse though he was a white guy with a grey afro & big bushy mo.

i like 2 watch people doing exersices badly, even though it pisses me off.one young guy would do db curls with 2 much weight , he would start each curl about a foot behind him and swing db to the top or the guy who liked 2 tell u he could squat 170kg ,but he only went down about 3 inches.
