NZ Food Composition Database

Recommended Posts

Hey, I just stumbled across this food composition database site the other day while trying to figure out what different foods are made up of...

You can plug in virtually any food type (it contains thousands), and it brings back a breakdown of:

Per 100g:

- Energy

- Protein

- Total Fat

- Saturated Fats

- Available Carbohydrate

- Total available sugars

- Sodium

- Dietary Fibre

http://www.crop.cri.nz/home/products-se ... search.php

It's put together by Crop and Food Research NZ.

I hope its helpful to some of you guys and girls, I'm sure I'll be using it to plan my nutrition improvements.

This is awesome. It used to be a publication you had to purchase, good to see they've made it more accessible...big ups to NZ Food and Crop

Yeah pretty sweet alright - the paid publication was what I found first, and then snooping around the website from there realized there was a free online database :) More in my price range \:D/

sorry to be negative but imho this is kinda shit website

i think

http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calori ... NrZW4.html

is a better site

what do you guys think

Nah I don't agree eh - sure it doesn't look as fancy, but the kiwi one is all kiwi food analyzed by Crop & Food Research right here in NZ. These are the foods we're eating, not foods analyzed in america or whereever that calorieking and other sites are based.

There might not be massive nutritional variation in every food type, but you can be sure that there would be plenty of nutrition differences across the range of foods covered.

:ditto:

I love that its personalised to NZ-specific names, like "kumara", "hoki" / "tarakihi" fish.. saves trawling through google/wikipedia to look up the root names/translations !

Calorieking's software for tracking nutrition is pretty good though
