fat intake - what's acceptable pre-contest

Recommended Posts

depends dude, that question cant be answered realy because we do not have enough information about you to give a save answer, information like, weight, BF levels, lean mass status, work scheduels , energy output etc etc.this information then allows us to calculate your daily calorie requirements as per goals and time frame you have to acheive them!! then we could say excatly how much fat should you be takeing in based on your protein requirements, carb needs etc, but my personal choice is to have a high fat intake whilst dieting,up to 20% fats, with 50% via protein,30%out of carbs , but of course the fat intake is not derived via saturated fats rather added essential fatty acids via flax seed oil, I do this for 2 reasons, one you need fats to burn fats, and two fat curbs the appetite and stops you felling like a starved wilderbeast in the dry season on the african plains all the time !! Thats my choice but if you are unsure see a good nutritionst!

Fat activates the Lipolytic enzymes(fat burnung enzymes)in your body and decreases the activity of the Lipogenic enzymes(fat producing enzymes), thus Dietary fatty acids and Triglycerides(body fat) become the main source of energy as the glyogen stores from your carb intake are reduced via a carb reduction and a increase in activity.

The triglycerides(bodyfat) is broken down into free fatty acids then into ketones, then is used by the body cells in replace of glycose which allow the triglycerides to be used as glycogen (energy),which in turn increases the metabolic rate and the bodys overall ability to burn fat, so we need fat to burn fat, I hope that it explains it ok !!

So you're talking about a keto diet... As I understood it, because carbs are the body's preferred source of energy, carb intake has to be virtually nil before the body reluctantly switches over to a state of ketosis (running on fat). Is that right?

Of course, Talluhangie's diet may already be practically carb-less - I haven't seen what she's been eating recently...
