Do squats increase butt and hip size?

Ok here's something you'll have a chance to take the piss out of. Ever get a rise in sex drive after adding squats to your routine?

Googled a study on the web: http://jap.physiology.org/cgi/content/abstract/82/1/49

Basically all they say is they took blood samples from people who bench and do squats and the testosterone levels where higher than average - squats increased test levels 15% and the bench was 7%.

Do squats in fact make you horny??? :twisted:

it doesnt make em bigger,i think they were just taking the piss. from experience,squating has given good definition around my bum and hip size has not increased

no i wasnt taking the piss, it does make it bigger, but its all muscle so its firm and girls like it so dont worry bro, squat away!!

Someone may want to correct me, but I think it's the deep part of squats that works the glutes and makes the butt bigger. So for those of us who feel our butts are big enough already, squat heavy, but not as deep.

...And I've just been excommunicated by the arse-to-the-grass brigade. :grin:

I read a testimony of one of the pros, who confirmed this psuedo, if you want the arse, go low, and the glute activates, quads kick in throughout however more glute below the parrallell (that is quads are parrallel to the ground). This is the same for leg press. If you want to work quads with out the back side coming in. Hack sqauts.

you all missing the point,yes deep squats will activate the glutes very well ,they CAN make the butt bigger if you are getting enough nutritens daily to build muscle,have enough hormone level to build muscle with and have enough rest and overload to cause muscle hypertrophy on a consistant basis.

if you are not meeting the above then the best thats gonna happen is maybe some strength increase and alittle tightening and friming of the area and your butt won't get bigger as such.

If you are trying to build muscle and are following a body building diet/ training system and don't want your butt to stick out like mine now does then avoid the deep squat.

Yeah if you are performing your squats deep enough, and in my opinion you should be, you will build glutes and hams,

Your hips will also get a little bigger as deep squats also utilize the hip flexors somewhat,

Your waist should remain similar though :D

how bout any butt reducing exercises lol

Lower body fat percentage,

Why would anyone want to reduce glute muscle size?

They comprise a large part of your posterior chain which is critical for most large compound lifts and general posture and stability,
