Weight Belt

Pretty common piece of gym gear. What's your opinion on them? Do you guys use one? For what exercises? Where's a good(cheap) place to get them from? Any good/bad brands?

My gym's only got one so I'm considering getting my own. I only use it when pushing myself on squats and heavy SLD. But someone was using the belt so I couldn't use it for SLD yesterday, and paying for it now.

Only use a belt for squats and deads upwards of 5RM.

I just bought one off trademe and it works like a dream.

There are 2 basic types I believe: Old school buckle with pin and holes like a normal belt or newer ones with things like velcro or some other mechanism. Main advantage is u can tighten or loosen these excatly how you want, as opposed to the pin and hole type belt where the holes are fixed distance.

When using a belt you got to teach yoursel to fill your guts with air and PUSH it against the belt.. the belt helps build the pressure, instead of using just your ab muscles.

Only use with weight above 180kg for squats and deadlifts ... 350kg+ leg presses. Only have on during the set. You shouldn't have it on for the whole work out as supporting muscles will not develop around your lower back and core.
