Food shopping

At the moment my diet is pretty rubbish in relation to my training goals, however I'm going shopping tomorrow (payday ) and plan to be quite strict about what I'm eating. Just as a general query though, how much do you spend on your food to keep your diet/nutrition needs on track? (not including supplements).

About $140-170 a week...depending on the cost of food items (price fluctuations etc).

I probably spend around $60 to $70 per week at the supermarket and another $40 at the butcher. To avoid temptation and impulse buying I've been shopping online lately. It means I don't have to walk past the choc biscuits or smell the bread baking! Then I only have two stops - one at the grocer for veges and the butcher which is conveniently located next door.

I try to chase specials. spending at the mo between $100-150 a fortnight.

Pak n save have 95c tins of 185g tuna

check the 'specials' fish section of countdown for discounted salmon.

rice is the cheapest carb.

kumara is on spec at the mo. it keeps well so you can buy heaps.

stock up on eggs when the supermarkets have their $5 for a tray specials

rolled oats from the bulk buy bins.

chicken breast chunks from pak n save instead of chicken breast (slightly higher in fat, but not a huge drama)

schnitzel instead of prime steak.

asian vege shops usually have cheap brocc, cabb and cauli. you can get more bang for you buck out of cabbage for salads instead of lettuce.

Shopping at New World will send you broke.

but. never spend extra gas chasing specials - otherwise you're defeating the purpose.

Does anybody know who this is? they are up here in aucks and sell it from there place if that helps
