VO2 testing??

Has anyone had their RMR and VO2 rate tested??

I was reading thisarticle about the difference having a true personal reading can make to diet and training and would like to know if it is really worth it.

I am not going to compete but I have reached a plateau that I just can not break :x thought having a true one off level to work with might help.

It looks like I can get the tests done at the local uni over here. Not sure at what cost tho...

Yep, (if I understand you right) I did after I did the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge back in 2005 - I used Andrew Jamieson in Wellington. He did a comprehensive report, cost $130, did lactate threshold, peak/average power (cycling), VO2 max, et cetera.

I think it was worth it - so much so I'm going to do it again ina month or so..I'm thinking of doing the Lake Hawea Epic (125km on a mountain bike - eep!) and he can help with a training plan.

I'll keep y'all posted...

Resting metabolic rate does not vary that much between individuals (so not something all that important to know) and hence why it is rather a joke that so many fat people blame their problem on 'having a slow metabolism'.

VO2 max is only a useful thing to know if you are concerned with endurance performance and not bodybuilding; and even then most people can only make small incremental improvements (unless you are extremely unfit to start with).

a raleigh 10 speed? :pfft:

If that's all I can hide from the Missus...she already knows how to count "One bike, two bikes..." I think she could count to three

Did a ride in Marlborough a couple years back - a guy in old-fashioned MoT uniform did it on a classic English Gentleman's Upright bicycle with three-speed Sturmey Archer gears - and the SoB was QUICK

Thanx for the info guys, I AM interested in RMR as I have to use Thyroxine (no thyroid - had it fully removed 25 years ago) so I never know how my metabolism is functioning..

AND SLOW metabolism is actually a real problem! Believe me it really is a reason fat people can be fat... I know from experience... I have even been told by a so called health professional (yes a real MD) that I was lying about what I was eating and to only eat air and then I wouldn't gain weight!! The dipshit then discovered my medication was a bad batch and I was gaining up to 3kgs a weekend because my metabolism ws so slow

Ooops - I DID misunderstand you, that's not quite what Andrew offered. I think that testing in your link would be worthwhile, especially in your case where the natural regulatory systems aren't there.

DS has a point - for the majority of folks, no complex facts are needed, but there are always going to be exceptions.

:D No apologies needed ds, :D

I understand your frustration at the lazy ones out there... I don't get annoyed with them I just feel sorry for them as they wll never know how great they can be or feel - so it's their loss. It's not ike they don't get enough info thrown their way and still they just sit there!

:clubbed:

Will let you know when I find out about the tests over here... typical uni, can't get an answer at the mo..

Thats wicked,

I have always fancied the idea of being real good at something, and using old school equipment to show everybody up regardless, a relation of mine was ranked 6th in the world at para gliding some years ago, he used his old school as chute when all the young guns used there real expensive gear, he didn't get to to #1 but still 6h hwas pretty good considering :)
