TAURANGA!

2guns

Recommended Posts

went down to TGA on the weekend and had a couple fo workouts at 2 of the gyms down ther.

first one i went to was bodyzone the to city gym.

BODYZONE:

bodyzone is pretty much like a shit version on lesmills. it quite flash and corporate, the whole gym is carpet (feels weird doing a heavy bench press with yr feet pushed into carpet) and everything is clean AS!!!

i went ther about 10am and got ther just in time to check out the chicks doing the spin class, they ranged from a 4 to an 7, one of the girls there might have been a borderline 8...

ther freeweights went up to only 47.5kg and ther is 3 or 4 of everything cardio wise.

dunno wat the hours were but it was open when i wanted to go so gym hours are irrelevant in this case

they have sunbeds a hair dressers and abit of other shit thats all part of the gym.

casual workout cost me $15.

the end.

CITY GYM:

city gym is also in tauranga, rite by the KFC (yes that was my pre-workout meal).

its open 24 hours u get a swipe card when u are a member. i went with KEATS from this forum who is a memebr ther. a trainer/worker is at the gym a few hours each day in the am and pm, but it tells u the hours sumone is ther on the door which is perfect for people who arent members like myself coz then we know when we can go for free, it also means u can do wateva u want train in jandels etc. chur keats for geting me in

me and keats trained arms at citygym, its a pretty mean gym! small but packed hard with lots of free weights and old skool equpitment!! its really old school and kinda reminded me of the gym in pumping iron (golds or world... wateva)

i cant remember wat the workout consisted of but i left keats way behind! :pfft: :pfft:

if i moved down to tauranga i would join city gym, its mean as!

P.S - had a 1 off big one and went out on saturday nite in tauranga to watch the rugyby and score sum lol cant even rememeber the game, and its ALL GOOD!! keats was meant to come out but couldnt handle his piss!! he didnt make it to town and combered out at home from half a dozen tuis.... maybe next time brother.. :pfft: :pfft:

peace!

City Gym is good and I would recommend it. Great for shift workers as it is available 24/7. As 2guns said some of the machines are older than half the members here but they do the job well and fancy machines do not mean better gains.

They have plaques on the wall for achievement, you get your name up for completion on 300lb benchpress, 400lb deadlift and 500lb squat. If you do more than this you get the weight put next to your name.

Next time your over 2guns well do a good back workout or something. Going for the 400lb deadlift next..

Man that brings some memories flooding back. As a young fella I trained with the same machines, dumbbells etc as you guys are now when Robin had the gym in Waihi Road in the 80's. There were some big natural guys back then doing some pretty impressive lifts. I remember the wall plaques for the bench press etc. :)

I realise that the thread is a bit old but for you guys reminising about Robin fisks Gym in Waihi Road, I think it is the same gear...when they closed down in Waihi Road, the gear was bought by the Tauranga Police, who had it at their station and then moved to to the 'City Gym' where it now resides. some of the old wooden boards with weight champs are from the Waihi Road one to.

I'm a member at the City Gym, and love it. Go when you want, tons of free weights, and whilst some of the machines are abit old...the pain is still the same!

Just joined today, was working out in small gym at neighbors but not talking to them anymore =p

So much more equipment that i had before, and like double what the Greerton pools gym has and city gym is half the cost!

Be training 4 days a week atm, depending when i finish my jobs for the day during the week.

pretty sure city gym is where we train at in tauranga, does it have an area behind like a half wall where there is a stage for classes? and a stretching area up stairs? I like that place.

Sounds like you have another gym in mind, City Gym has no classes or stretching area. It's too small and old school for that, just strength training equipment and about half a dozen or so cardio machines.

That sounds like "Bay Bodyfit" at the Mount. We've been doing posing practice there lately on Saturdays with Kaye O'Neill.

Yep, sure is Bay Bodyfit. Its an ok gym and great for getting routine down for posing (large full length mirrors). Citygym is a back to basics old school kick ass gym. So old some of the gear is wooden. A hardcore gym not a poncy posing gym like FitCo. The guy that owns FitCo is a toss.
