South Island Nabba Show

Appreciate your comments and see where you are coming from Inyan but Andrew I think you are missing the point completely, my posts are not about just having a whine!!! the organisers are doing "NOTHING" down here to make any effort, I know there are plenty of people who are willing to get in and help, but first the ones doing it must step aside....... my original point is get new organisers and I would be happy to help, from the short time I have been involved in the sport I have seen heaps of people both competitors and non competitors only too willing to lend a hand and get involved.

Inyan you are saying you are actively promoting the show to get numbers up, well Christchurch Nabba could not even be bothered putting it on their website, so we are not asking for big screaming billboards, just some type of acknowledgement the show is happening. There is nothing active or promotional about Christchurch Nabba.

No I got your point..... I suggest you contact NABBA HQ through their website and ask to be involved. They will put you in contact with the local people/person who may be so fed up organising the show they may wish to hand the torch on, or they may welcome a new face with new energy who can help out.

It takes people with passion, drive and committment to get a show organised and off the ground. But it also takes support from all sorts of people within the bodybuilding community. So if you are interested, contact NABBA HQ and ask to be involved.

Nabba HQ were sitting at both ends of the judges table, so if they could not see that there was a problem then me suggesting it probably wont make much difference, I dont wish to start naming people on a forum but the word on the street is that there are plenty of willing helpers ready to step in, this is very much a politics issue within the sport, not a shortage of enthusiam or support or grunters on the day, I personally offerred to help this coming weekend as a non competitor for NZFBB and the offer was greatly received so I am prepared to do my bit :pfft: Word on the street is that there are far more experienced and qualified people waiting for the opportunity to take the reins

I agree as well for example putting the poster out on the NABBA web site and also Keith Jolly web site as well which would have been the right thingh to plus it would give people who are plaining on attending the show were to buy tickets like last year there was a poster for the NABBA South islands on the NABBA web site which I thought was helpfull when I came up from Dunedin to attend the show.Compare to this year when there wasnt a poster for the show on the NABBA web site or Keith Jolly website which I thought was very slack and lazy in my book.NABBa Canterbury should change venues from the Dame Nagio Marsh theater which I thought was a small venue for the show when I attened the show to the town hall which would be a ideal spot to have plus it would mean athlets etc would not have travel across Christchurch after the show for going out.

why dont u make a poster then with yr crayons :pfft: , and venues cost money... bigger better venues are usually more expensive.

if ppl think they are gonna lose money by putting a show on, well then i dont really blame them if they dont do it or if its not the best show in the world.

Dame Ngaio was a great theatre where we had the NZFBB South Island Champs last run by Mike D - an excellently run show with approx 80 competitors I think?! Plenty big enough.

No 2Guns, I dont think you should run with a show if you know you cant give it your best and what it deserves.

ds

ds - I think you're confusing the Dame Ngaio Theatre with the Theatre Royal (where Mike D ran the 2007 NZFBB South Island Champs last year). I do agree with you that the Theatre Royal is an excellent venue, but probably a lot more expensive than Dame Ngaio (which I've never seen, but I've heard it is small).

I can certainly sympathise with rollesbygirl on this topic, who is certainly not at all your typical "whiner". Competitors, spectators and sponsors all deserve to be provided with a "professionally" run event. I heard similar complaints about last year's NABBA South Island event. Despite being an NZFBB event organiser, I take no pleasure in seeing a NABBA show getting bagged - it's not good for bodybuilding. I can symphathise with organisers who get complaints about things that were out of their control. I always welcome feedback (good and bad) so that if there is anthing I should have done differently, or could do better in future, then I do my utmost to implement that for future events.

I agree with Inyan - more people need to offer their help, but also organisations have to take ownership of their events and either replace existing organisers who underperform, or offer assistance or allow other people to assist to ensure their events are as professionally and successfully run as possible. I take pride (and a lot of time and effort) in putting on a good event, and hopefully in most cases I do that - but it's not rocket science and if I can do it then surely almost anyone can!

A good friend of mine competed for the first time with Nabba at this show after years of competing in NZFBB, She had only good things to say about it, especially the relaxed laid back environment and how the morning show didnt drag out for hours unlike in NZFBB. so goes to show, ya cant plz all the people all the time

I agree, Allan - it's very difficult to please everyone. One thing to note is that for the past two years NZFBB shows no longer have routines during pre-judging (except perhaps a couple of Mixed Pairs and Fitness routines) so they are neither long or drawn out anymore.

Must admit this has made a huge difference - all shows should be run like this - or alternatively have the prejudging and a Q&A session with the geust posers an elite athletes on a Friday night and the finals with guest posers etc on the Saturday. = more $$$ made to support the federations.
