South Island Nabba Show

I find it interesting and not so interesting that there has been not much talk about the Christchurch South Island Nabba, we went along today, my better half competing and I was horribly dissapointed. Fortunately all his hard work is not wasted as he is competing in the NZFBB next weekend which is the main goal, but after my own disspointing experience with Nabba with no photographer or videographer, today cemented my view that we would not compete in a Nabba event until they sort out their stuff! They need new organisers, show supposed to start at 12.30 and I had somebody coming to watch but as it was only twenty competitors they decided to start early......what? then dragged it out in each class to make it last longer, one guy came out wearing his boxer shorts, posters only went up last week, hardly anybody at prejudging that wasnt there supporting an athlete and from the stack of night show tickets at the door, dont think tonight will be much better, no stage decoration , no effort what such ever, is dissapointing after all the time and money and effort athletes put it to see such a non event from the orgnasiers, even the judges were not all wearing suits it just gone downhill, we need some new enthusiastic people stepping in to make it worth while

Hey deepsouth, he will be competing in the Masters 40 plus, Keith Jolly took some pics but I did snap some I will resize and put up for everybody. We just got home from evening show, Mr Rollesby happy with his first placing, but no sponsers, no overalls, and interesting head organiser missing in action for evening show. To top it all off, it started ten minutes late, and there was a very small crowd, I went back stage after a few classes and feel ripped off having paid $40 today for what????? a whole heap of frustration. I am pleased to report that next weekend will be a different story and well worth the ticket, so Deepsouth you competing this weekend coming and if so what class?

Those are small numbers with 20 athlets competing compare to last year's show there were 42 athlets and there were sponsers sighs on the stage a last years.NABBA they didnt put the poster up for this years South Island's on there web site which I thought was slack.I would have to agree with Rollsberry girl there dose need to some major changes for NABBA for example people with better orgainsing skills and having back ground set at the show which would be a good idea with the diffrent various sponser which would give the genral public a idea who are the sponsers for the show for the likes of Les Mills etc.I reckon that the genral public must have felt riped off after paying for there tickets for the night show with show starting ten minutes late.

Yes, I'm sure Mike D will run another great show next weekend! I'm going down to help out, but I'm not competing this time.

I'll be keen to see your partner compete, rollesbygirl - the Masters Over 40 class is one I'm aways keen to watch .. oh, and the Classic class which I did last year in Chch.

Hey Mr T ... what are the chances of putting on a "NZFBB MOVEMBER GRAND PRIX" ... there is room at the end of that month ... should be tabled at the next meeting I reckon. You'd be a shoe in for a trophy ... Fully Mo-tested of course!!

LOL - great idea, Optimass .. it's about time I grew the facial hair back (mostly grey now :( )

Of course, fellow Executive member Moe M is likely to win ... with a Moe Mo!! :pfft:

Yep Tel your so right. I knew beforehand the organisation of this show was gonna be crap from the guys at my gym who know the shit state the NABBA organisers are down here in Chch. I competed for experience more than anything being my first comp and all, but saying that I wasnt gonna stop some lousy organisers from stopping me enjoying the experience. As you will relate to only too well, the amount of time and money spent to compete is insane. Basically last night was a slap in the face, not only for those competing, but for those spectators who did bother to show. Thank god those of us that did compete got on fab and the communal support backstage amongst fellow competitors was great.

Does anybody else thinks it worth making more of a fuss than just whinging on a forum, I was thinking of writing to Nabba HQ and asking for my $25 back that I paid for my night show ticket, I only lasted three classes before I gave up and went backstage with Mr R, I actually think stupidly that paying for the night show ticket helps support the local show, now I am peed off that I did as I was ripped off.

Lowfat I agree with you, competitors made the most of it, and I was in the same boat same experience in April I wasnt going to let poor organisation ruin my first time after all of that hard work but how many more bad shows and dwindling numbers will it take

It seems a shame that so little effort was put into the SI show - as I personally prefer NABBA shows. However, with regarrds to competitor numbers, quite a few shows have been well down on usual numbers. Sonny Schmidt had a total of 34 I believe. Given it's the last Auck show to qualify for Nats I would have expected a much larger turnout. Novice Figure Tall - one competitor. Yet, when I competed NZFBB Auck Champs earlier in the year, there were 7 in my class, but it was still a small show. NABBA Counties had a toatl of 19 competitors (venue has something to answer for here).

Sign of the times I think - less free cash to throw around = less competitors!

You looked absolutely wicked mate, we were very impressed, well done, it was a shame they did not have overalls as you and Mr R could have posed your trunks off against each other, would have been a good battle!!!! Heard heaps of feedback about how great you looked, look forward to seeing you do your thing next week too. Good guess eh :) Here are two more pics I snapped of you. Sorry they are not the best but looking forward to seeing Keith Jollys ones on his site

Hi

It's interesting reading the posts on how the Christchurch NABBA show went. Just to clear a few things, local shows are organised by locals, and trust me - it's damn hard!! Very few competitors past and present step forward to be "volunteers" on local committees and the organisation is generally left up to a few who worked hard to make the best of the situation. I can't speak for the CHCH organisers, but as the Wellington NABBA Secretary, I can say that our small group of volunteers is working damn hard to get Wellington Body Building off the ground - regardless of what federation you choose to compete in. This year we approached Master Tel to work with us on a combined seminar - to great success.

We are also actively promoting the show and trying to drum up both athlete numbers and audience numbers.

The other thing to remember (and Master Tel will advise for NZFBB) as we are non for profit. So local people have to find sponsers, buy prizes, design and deliver posters, get tickets sorted, ensure registrations come through etc etc etc, all while remaining passionate and dedicated to the sport.

So its a shame CHCH wasn't as you expected, but please realise that us locals are working hard to make shows a great experience for all involved. And we always want volunteers to help. I'm sure CHCH NABBA would be keen for some help and support next year.

Cheers

Inyan - Wellington NABBA Secretary
