Downsize Me

Not so far from the truth, Sheta... I believe it used to be the case that the airline set its weights on a "standard man" and "standard woman" and that these figures have drifted upwards since the '70s!

Some American airlines will charge supersized folks for two seats - and have successfully defended discrimination claims against them in court. And yes, I do feel lucky when I find a 60kg sylph in th next seat - 'cos when you're stuck in a window seat with two 130kg women between you and the aisle for twelve hours, it's a loooooong time to wait!

I did hear about air nz looking at briniging this in. it's more of a case the poor bugger that is next to the fat arse needs to complain that they are being crushed. than if they are lucky they get bumped to first class, and the mammoth gets two seats. I have thought about that argument about the combined weight of the flight. i reckon that is why the luggage allowance has gone from 25-30kg down to 20kg, because the average weight of people has gone up. suck for the little people :)

Jsut been reading this post and this is my pet peeve, totally, last year we got charged $160 for being 16kg over weight with our shopping proceeds, yet as you say some people can weight 50 kilos more and some, I agree that there should be a combined weight allowance based on an average man and average woman. Imagine the fuss if Jetstar charged overweight people $10 for every kilo - hehehe :pfft:

When my wife and I went on our honeymoon I had just come of the end of offseason training. I was 128kg .... On the trip over I was in an aisle seat which meant the trolleys caught my shoulder on every pass ... on the return trip we couldn't get a seat together and this old lady was wedged in between us .... she fought for every inch of space by elbowing me in the ribs constantly ... the end result I was practically climbing the wall for the whole flight :pfft:
