Downsize Me

Recommended Posts

The woman on Downsize Me tonight weighed in at 185kgs.

Now its just an idea but I would have thought by the time she had got to 150kgs she would have thought "Hmmm, maybe I better not up-size my combo today"!

She was as big as a house!

Good on her for finally deciding to do something about it.

once you can't see your sexual organs you must realise it's time to sort it out. Man, some of those obese people cant wipe their backsides without help. If the loss of personal care, and having someone else wipe you isn't motivation enough, then it must be mental illness.

I've always wondered that myself. Why, when ya see things startin to slide, do you not stop it??!!

thats true, but its easier said than done, people often look for little reasons to stuff them selves with a bunch of junk food especially when they are overweight. and they tend to think 'what difference would a cheese burger make anyway?', after that they'll get even hungry and move on to a bigmac , and so forth. what im trying to say is that when overweight, its much easier to give in to temptations because there is nothing or no reason to. for example,a person who used to be fat and have lost a lot of weight will not give in as easily to a burger because they dont want to ruin all the hard work which has been put in to loosing the weight. but an over weight person who hasnt been there will think the opposite...hope what i wrote made sense lol :pfft:

Yep, makes sense to me...been there, done that!

Another thing is the effect of food on the brain...for some reason (stress, or whatever) a person feels like crap, so they eat to feel better, 'cos it's a) convenient; b) quicker to feel the effects; and c) hard to see the damage one burger can do...and then, since self-esteem's often in the garbage anyway, what difference will super-sizing "just one more time" actually do?

Faced with the choices of 30-40min hard work and sweat for an endorphin feel-good sensation in the gym, or five minutes at the drive-thru, it's often the path of least hardship.

Add in "perceived value for money" - as in, super-sizing, or a two-for-one, looks like 'better value', and the fact that food now contains rubbish like hfcs and other unnatural ingredients in the interest of shelf-life, low cost and the like, and the average person can find themselves perched on the edge of a steep slope where sliding downwards into obesity is the easier option.

and finally, in my rant, since folks aren't taught nutrition, or shown what healthy servings are, and often believe good food is more expensive/harder to cook/ not as tasty, and the crap food's available everywhere, they often simply don't know how to turn things around.

Fine, rant over - off for egg-whites and ps =P~

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for a little junk food (actually, sometimes a lot of junk food), but that has to be "paid for" - CARDIO.

But, your right TFB. Not enough is taught about how to read those silly nutritional tables in the back of the packet and what it all means.

Seems like you and I agree...cardio is the currency to pay for cheat meals :D

IMO, its a complex problem with links to "entitlement" and "I want it now!" and time-poverty (so little time to do hard stuff like cook from scratch)... and a fair amount of fear - like getting fit and lean's gonna hurt :pfft:

Of course it's gonna hurt - but it'll be worth it!

the sad thing is, is that obese is triggered off by depression and that could be from anything and all people do (ladies & men) is eat to find some sort of security and a sense of comfort and before they know it 'boom'! they can't even see their nutz LOL. maybe their pubic hairs if they're lucky! :pfft: :pfft: :pfft:

but hey, good on her

She got down to 167.7kgs which is a decent loss in 2 weeks. Goes to show what a little healthy eating and exercise can do.

Its true that depression can kick in and people resort to those quick and easy comfort foods because they know they taste good and will make them feel better. The excuse is usually "Everything just tastes so good I cant stop eating". Everything except salads apparently! :)

The lady in mention won a trip to Oz.

This brings up another topic:

Why is it that when I'm 60kg, all Im allowed for luggage is 20kg otherwise Im charged excess. This lady (and many others in similar weights) obviously is over my 80kg limit without bags.

Should there be a maximum combined weight on planes?

Not so far from the truth, Sheta... I believe it used to be the case that the airline set its weights on a "standard man" and "standard woman" and that these figures have drifted upwards since the '70s!

Some American airlines will charge supersized folks for two seats - and have successfully defended discrimination claims against them in court. And yes, I do feel lucky when I find a 60kg sylph in th next seat - 'cos when you're stuck in a window seat with two 130kg women between you and the aisle for twelve hours, it's a loooooong time to wait!

I don't think Air NZ or anyone else that services New Zealand would want to open that can of worms.

mate i get this all the time when people see me eating. Living in the UK I haven't seen the show. but with the morbindly obese thing, it's becoming fashionable in the UK. I can't fathom that if your partner can't get out of bed without help, surely you would intervene. yet alone the fact they are physically unable to have sex.
