Nutrigenix "Supreme Whey Complex"

My last batch of protein had run out, and a problem with the courier company meant my online order was delayed. Facing the unthinkable prospect of a few days without protein powder (how would I survive?!), I headed down to my local supplements store and asked for something cheap to keep me going until my online order arrived.

Salah at Extreme Nutrition Henderson recommended the "Supreme Whey Complex" by Nutrigenix. It's your standard isolate-concentrate blend, with low carbs and 23g of protein per 30g serve.

It also has two kinds of glutamine in it - glutamine peptide and L-glutamine. Salah couldn't tell me how much there was, but he assured me the fact that it had two kinds was an excellent thing.

So what would it cost for a 5lb tub?

"For you, $85. Anyone else pay full price of $90."

Oooh, VIP treatment?! It would seem ungrateful to turn down a deal like that. Although I notice that anyone buying through Extreme Nutrition's website also gets the same deal. Am I still a VIP if everyone's a VIP?

Curiously, the nutritional info label has two columns - one for a one-scoop serve, and one for a two-scoop serve. How thoughtful of Nutrigenix to cater to those bodybuilders who can't multiply by two.

So how does it taste? Well, damn good, actually. It's sweet, but not too sweet. A lot like Milo or drinking chocolate. No thickeners, either.

It actually has "coco" powder in it, which is nice, even if they can't spell it properly. Some other brands I've tried recently seem to use artificial chocolate flavours. They don't list cocoa in the ingredients, and you can often see the separate dyes of the artificial colouring they've used instead. Although the Supreme Whey Complex also lists artificial flavours, the taste is pretty natural.

If you've read my other reviews, you'll know how picky I am about my protein's mixability. Nutrigenix claims this protein mixes instantly. Well, it does if you use a shaker. Use a teaspoon, and you end up with one sticky protein lump in a glass of water. Even mixing it through my breakfast muesli was difficult - I had to mash it into the milk, which was not a quick process.

Bottom line: This seems to be the "no-frills" brand of protein (and Nutrigenix's website seems to support that theory). The budget image doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the brand. However, if that doesn't bother you, and you only ever use a shaker to mix your protein, then this is a pretty good choice for taste and price.

Nice review :D And they need to fire whoever's in charge of their pseudo-80's style marketing lol.

Never heard of Nutrigenix before, so this was a wee eye-opener. Any protein powder that tastes like Milo sounds good to me!

Negative.

I shall go see Salah next week for my $80 tub of Nutrigenix powder.. being a VVIP an' all ;)
