4 Weeks Out, How Should I Look?

I need some advice and I mean honest advice....

This is my first competition and I admit that I have no idea what to expect, the whole combination of diet, cardio and weight training for this last period feels like such a gamble.

I have been dieting now for about 2 months, not hardcore but pretty clean for most of it. I also introduced cardio a few weeks back, 40 minute sessions with medium intensity once or twice a day.

To date I have dropped 8 Kilos and have hit the upper barrier of my weight class (so first goal reached), the next goal is to get the right conditioning to allow my natural physique to be remotely competitive against the juiced up freaks :pfft:

The reality is I can't do anything about my size, I know I can compete again and add a few kg's on my legs alone. But for this competition this is where I am and this is what I have to work with......

The Big Question...... Based on the picture, am I on target?

John have you decided whether you are doing Physique or Classic? You about 80kgs still at the mo? Classic Mens class you look awesome. You are quite lean now and in 4 weeks you will look even better, just keep on what you are doing

Have you chosen your colour yet? I think I'm going to go with the Kabakoff range. 2-3 base coats with 1 coat of shimmer before going on stage and it washes off easy so you won't be stained around your neck ankles for a week or so after comp.

I think you should have a chat to MasterTel on Sunday at the seminar, he'll be able to give you loads of advice and there will be other chaps there to give you feedback too.

You are doing really well, keep it up

In answer to your question I am competing in Masterton at the North Island Champs, still not sure about the class yet.

I want to do classic but until they split the class into short, medium and tall I think it will be too risky. So at this stage I think its more likely that I will go for the 70-80 novice and hope what I lack in size I make up in condition and "good posing".

To date I think my progress has been pretty good, I am a little worried about the last bit of fat around my lower abs and back but if the pace continues this should not be an issue.

As for the tanning advice BG much appreciated, I have a little bit of left over dream tan (from someone else) to try if not just to eliminate it as an option. I can live with the hassle and any other problems associated with the products, as long as it looks good on the day I dont care.

Would seem a shame to put in the hard yards and not do it justice on the day, have you tried the kabakoff or done a test run with it?

BTW... Thanks :D

I'm guessing you are doing your local show (NZFBB North Island Champs - Masterton) as it is 4 weeks from tomorrow?

I agree with biggurl27 - have a think about the Classic class as an option to your standard weight class. Assuming you are just under 80kg at the mo, then if you are no taller than 1.76m you are already in the qualifying zone.

Regarding the tanning, I can give you names of experienced competitors in Masterton to contact for advice. If you need to know anything at all about the event - let me know, as I am the Event Organiser for that show.

Correct

As things stand at this moment in time I am floating between 79 and 80kg, at 1.78m I will have no issue reaching the classic class weight restriction - hell I am already there. I think the problem is I won't be heavy enough, well not while its a single class anyway. I wasn't going to decide on the class until I register, then its a case of ticking one box or the other :? might even close my eyes :pfft:

I have no idea what my current fat percentage is and therefore it is hard to accurately know what my ideal competition weight will be, looking in the mirror and estimating my skinfolds I reckon I am about 10%. At a guess what would you say an ideal skin fold measurement would be for the waist (Suprailiac) both now and come show day.

I only say this site because its the one I am most concerned about, the rest will come along for the ride. As of today it is about 4mm and the split in my lower abs is yet to show, so is it realistic to get a 4% fat reduction in the remaining 4 weeks and what is it going to take?

Hi John, I haven't used the Kabakoff range, I still have my dream tan in the cupboard from 7 years ago so probably off by now haha nar it smells all good. Just heard good things about the Kabakoff. But nothing wrong with Dreamtan, besides getting the shit off

Are you offering?

Settle down, biggurl27! On the other hand, that kinda talk might help me find backstage staff for Masterton ... instead of struggling to find a team of tanners I'll have them offering to pay big money to oil you up! :pfft:

Seriously, the baby oil "trick" is brilliant to remove Dream Tan - just rub some in with your hand and wipe off with a towel.

Looking good! I am contemplating doing the Masterton Comp, sadly you look leaner than I am despite my efforts so may need the extra time until the CNIs or Thames. MasterTel - I competed in Taranaki in the Mens classic - there was 5 of us in the class (I didn't place top 3) was it top 5 at taranaki to qualify for the Nationals I was told at the time that it was? If I do the Nationals this Year I think it needs to be in the Classic - I am definitely doing the Thames Comp and will do that in the Open to give myself a target for next year.

Hey Ed - it's great to see you are planning on competing soon! I certainly remember you from the Taranaki show last year, and your debut at the Wellington Champs earlier in the year.

Unfortuntely the "top 5" rule was only temporary - it was in force at both the Wellington and Auckland champs last year, before we reverted back to the traditional top-3 qualification for Nationals. So this means you still need to qualify to do Nationals this year - you have 4 events left to do do (Sonny Schmidt, South Island, North Island and CNIs).

Good on you for looking to the Open classes for next year - and I look forward to seeing you on stage in the next few months!

Your looking good for 4 weeks out. Right on target. You can do shitloads to your condition in 4 weeks. The last comp I did the most recognisable changes in conditioning came in those last 4 weeks. You sound you already know quite a bit from your previous posts. To be honest I would stick to what you are doing and come 3-4 weeks you will be right on the money.
