i got mine for like 15$ from a local sporting goods store. you dont NEED double loop. its costs more, and single works fine.

Just go somewhere that sells automotive fabric, get a metre of seatbelt strapping, cut it in half, and hey presto, the cheapest straps you'll ever find. Either that or your gym might have some under the counter with all their 'special' supplements!

I ordered some lifting straps recently. I had to get them from bb.com because I couldn't find the ones I wanted here (these aren't straps so much as hooks).

Unfortunately, I chose the cheapest shipping option. That was on May 18 - they still haven't arrived. Apparently it has been stopped while customs gets an ingredient check on some of the packages.

However I've found bb.com's support line pretty good...

Deadlift Devon: Thank you for visiting Bodybuilding.com. My name is Deadlift Devon. How can I help you today?

Pseudonym: Hi there. Just making another enquiry about my order #123456789 which still hasn't arrived.

Pseudonym: In fact, it's been so long now, I can't even access it from your website :-/

Deadlift Devon: I apologize, it is still in customs

Pseudonym: Could I have the Track-and-Trace number you used to track it, please?

Deadlift Devon: I believe Becca explained that to you already but maybe not. We do not have individual tracking numbers for our international packages unfortunately, unless they are express. They are all sent out bulk so there isn't a way to track just your package.

Deadlift Devon: Customs electronically notifies us when that bulk shipment reaches them

Pseudonym: I see. Can you give me some sort of ID# for the shipment, then?

Deadlift Devon: Unfortunately, no. All information supplied to us is automatically updated electronically through a series of bar code scans that the package undergoes under transit

Pseudonym: And so is it this whole bulk package that's been stopped?

Deadlift Devon: Correct

Pseudonym: That must be a bit of a worry. How many customers would that affect?

Deadlift Devon: i am unsure of exactly how many went out in that one, Id assume around 10

Pseudonym: wow, ok.

Pseudonym: Any idea when the package might be released?

Deadlift Devon: I am not sure, I don't know how many other packages they have on top of that. It is frustrating. I would assume about a week

Pseudonym: I will await delivery anxiously, then!

Deadlift Devon: Okay! And I apologize for the delay

Pseudonym: Thanks for your help.

So if you're one of the other nine affected - patience, it's coming! :?

Yep... The Hooker II. A friend had got them, so I gave them a try and was really impressed. I have some long wraparound straps, but it takes longer for me to put them on the bar than it does to do the set! I'd thought there might be problems with the hook sitting in the wrong place, but that didn't seem to be an issue (I can't remember whether the hook position is adjustable or not). The only problem I had with them was in letting go of the bar afterwards! :D

Having said that, I'm not sure I'd have made the same decision if I'd known how long they'd take to arrive...

you wussy's! straps!! harden up and use the hook grip and do some special grip work.

Actually, when I last looked, the name of the game was "bodybuilding", not "training to crush a beer can with your bare hands".

If your grip is limiting your progress, then a set of straps can be really helpful.

I only use mine for stretching my lats by hanging from a chinup bar but if I was moving some real weight (like shrugging 220kg), I would gladly prioritize my traps or back over my grip.

There's also the issue of grip endurance as opposed to grip strength. It's feasible to have enough grip strength to do the exercise despite the heavy weights but by the time you've hit your 3rd back exercise, your grip may well be exhausted and your ability to work the bodypart suffers.

Spitterkat does have a valid point though... If you use wrist straps, you should be aware that you're not working your forearms like you would otherwise. It's often a good idea to throw in a few sets without straps too, or to do additional wrist exercises.

Yes Im aware that forearms are worked through compound excercises that straps will ovetake. I must add traps as well are worked in the same manner. I dont do any direct forearm or trap work. Heavy deadlifts and rack deadlifts cane them.

BUT after 3 sets of heavy deads if it means I wont be able to row anymore, its a bit pointless init ?

Thus the straps :)

I dont know why people worry about this so much, do some farmer walks, get some damn straps, and give your traps or whatever muscle your trying to work the workout they deserve.

I love my traps and i owe it all to heavy shrugging with straps -

hangon, let me rephrase, not bodybuilders, more the values of training, picture the big boy on the beach who has huge biceps, yet the guy who is small as can outlift him etc, decoration only, no function at all.

looks like tarzan, plays like jane!

I used to think the same.. not anymore...

I went to an Auckland Powelifting Novice meet on last Sunday ( best 3 lifts).

A chap weighing 71kgs squatted 210kgs... thats impressive.
