Shoulders for bench?

Newbie Question

I got tonnes of power in my incline work, but losing strength in my bench press, could this possibly be due to weak shoulder strength?

or maybe arms?

Listening to what my body's telling me is that it maybe in all or one of those areas.

Not an expert my any means.

But I imagine your shoulders would be more important for inclines than flat bench and if your locking out fine on your inclines then it probably isn't your tricep lockout which is usually where the problem lies, so it seems like it would be your pec strength!

Let's see what the expert say first tho shall we :D

Yeah I thort that too.

For quite some time I was plateauing with my bench, so I started doing db presses for a while instead, which helped amazingly and I broke through that plateau. I was benching 100kg and moving up.

But for some reason I have now lost strength in that area my chest and even my flat bench db work is useless.

So just having trouble putting my finger on it.

withthe bench being a large muscle group ex, tricep, shoulders and chest are involved in the push. so if any of these are lacking you may find it difficult. I would check the technique, ensure you are hitting the chest, with a good squeeze at the top. keeping the bar over the pec. I have found once the bar drifts up towards the neck, the shoulders will take over. One thing i am trying on at the moment is to pre fail with DB flyes and than come into a bench. it's working well at the moment for me.

I always try to keep good form thoughout the movement like you said. But I havent tried doing flyes first, I'll give that a go. Cheers

I find doing shoulder press behind neck right down put only go 3/4 the up will increase your shoulder strength and in turn your bench. It may feel strange and hurt for a bit but after that your bench will deffinately increase. Also do heavy french press when training your triceps to increase tricep strength :)
