NZFBB Classic Class

Recommended Posts

e.g. 183cm tall (approx 6ft) => max weight is 89kg

Which is still pretty damn big, when that 89kg is lean. Personally (as a smaller 183cm bodybuilder!) I think the max weight should be slightly less. Otherwise, there's no difference between competitors in the Classic class and the 80-90kg.

Yeah, this is one area where the Classic class differs from NABBA's Athletic class - Athletic has just one ratio .. height (cm) - 98 (i.e. same as the under 170cm Classic class ratio).

I'm the same as you Pseu (i.e. 183cm) and I compete at around 83kg (6kg under the limit). In Athletic the max weight comes down to 85kg for me, so the taller Classic guys can be up to 4kg heavier than they could be if doing Athletic.

If you are wondering why the NZFBB has 3 ratios - it's because we are following the exact IFBB ratios. If we ever have the luxury of getting perhaps 10 Classic competitors at an event of varying heights then we can afford to have 3 classes (Tall, Medium and Short).

So Pseu, what weight would you think to be more fair? For my figure class the most I can compete at is 60.2kg (NABBA) - which is heafty.

For a 183cm tall bber, I think 85kg would be about right.

Funnily enough, I just checked out the NABBA Athletic formula:

"Height (in cm) – 100 + 2 = Maximum Allowable Weight"

which means 183cm = 85kg. I promise I wrote that first sentence before I looked!

I just think that too much heavier at this height, and you're getting into the weight-class type of physique. Equally, if you want to encourage leanness in the class, you lower the max weight so people have to be lean in order to squeeze in.

If those are the IFBB-specified ratios though, I guess there's not so much the NZ Federation can do about it.

I agree with you guys that the ratio is probably too high and should be closer/same as NABBA's.

For Example: I read an interview with Mike Kingsnorth where he said he was 85.35kg on stage at the 2006 Nationals where he won the Mr NZ.

He is 179cm(5'11) tall and that would put his max weight for Classic at 85kg.

350gms lighter and MR NZ could hace competed in the Classic Class!!

Perhaps thats something you could bring up with the powers that be as a point of discussion Mastertel.

I'm the same height as Mike and under NABBA rules, I could compete up to 81kg's which is probably the upper end of still being considered an "Athletic" frame.

We've all seen how big Richard Parnham and Tom Wojcik look in Athletic compared to the rest of the competition as they must just squeeze under the weight limit to compete in this class. If you add around 4kg's of extra muscle to their frames IMO you really do have a Physique Type Muscularity and not an Athletic. This 4kg's would still keep them in the Classic Class if they chose to compete in it and thats why I think the cut off may be too high.

Amazing pic - thanks, BorisCH.

What incredible conditioning - these guys really have maximised their height/weight ratio by getting completely ripped!

I reckon these guys would win Physique titles in many countries Nationals champs.

In Physique bigger muscle mass will dominate. In Classic in the future, particularly on international level, only people with perfect bone structure will win.

I have heard that IFBB is discussing now with Olimpic Committee the possibility of including Classic BB in to next Olimpic Games. That is why this class was introduced in IFBB.

Some more Photos from the same comps, and one of my early ones.

Might try this year after 4 years brake.post-2160-14166818272831_thumb.jpgpost-2160-14166818272997_thumb.jpgpost-2160-14166818273204_thumb.jpgpost-2160-14166818273352_thumb.jpg

WELL WELL. For those that havent seen BorisCH compete, his physique will set the standard for Classic in NZ, In Past yrs Boris has been stuck between athletic and Physique while he was competing in NABBA. All we need now is to get Richard Parnham (NABBA Mr athletic NZ) along with a few others to get up on stage in classic and we will have a truly international level class as good as you would see anywhere in the world.

I really hope we do see you Sep 20 on stage Borris. it over due.
