ROID MOVIE/DOCO

Recommended Posts

Oh good. It's nice to know I couldn't have seen it even if I hadn't been so slack. :)

I couldn't be bothered going into town twice (or hanging about all day) and I was already going to The Kid Brother that evening. If you get the chance to see it in the other cities, I highly recommend it. It's an old silent movie from 1927 (I think?) and it's really raised the bar for slapstick comedy for me. Very cool! You'll need to book though - it has the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra playing along to it, and the Civic was absolutely packed.

Interesting movie, pretty unbiased - and not much about Bodybuilding...

Gregg Valentino (also known as 'the man whose biceps exploded') was there - Victor Martinez, linked to 'roid sales and to Arnold.

It also contrasted the effects of 'roids compared to alcohol and tobacco, and tended to highlight some of the contradictions in America...that folks want the lifestyle without hard work, and that cheats sometimes get rewarded rather than punished. Hell, Ben Jonson got disqualified in Seoul in '88, but his replacement Carl Lewis had been warned, but escaped, for use of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine - BY THE US OLYMPIC COMMITTEE...what sort of a mixed message is that!

Worth a look, anyways.
