Dropping fat a bit fast?

Recommended Posts

I've been lifting weights for about 8 months or so now. Started off skinny so naturally I wanted to bulk. So bulked for around 7 months and went from about 97kgs to 110kgs at my heaviest in that time.

So I thought that was bulking enough and decided to go on a bit of a cut. My initial thought was do follow of a pre contest diet and tweak it slightly to suit myself. I've been on it for 4 weeks, dropped down to 99kgs so that's a 8 - 10kg drop in 4 weeks. I've read that you shouldn't drop more than 1kg a week but my fat is going down, i'm still keeping size (measurements are the same or even slightly bigger).

I don't have a trainer or anything but I got my BF tested and i'm around 15% now upper abs showing pretty well etc. Happy with progress but wondering if this is all normal or am I making a slight error somewhere and dropping it incorrectly?

Lol. But seriously, thats impressive  You're obviously doing something right if your measurements are roughly staying the same. The fact that its happening pretty quickly is imo, no biggie. Your diet appears to be working for you :)

Sorry if you've posted this somewhere else.. but what're you cutting for? Have you got an end point in mind for when you stop?

Thanks haha. I just wanted to see what it would be like to cut. Since i'm new to bodybuilding I thought it would be interesting to think I was preparing for a contest. So I thought i'd do a 12 week full on pre contest diet, training, cardio etc (Even dehydration) The works. I want to stop around 95kgs. Maybe lower if need be. I'm finding it easier because i'm intaking less food than bulking but harder because the food is all plain and no flavouring at all.

That's good if it's no big deal that i'm losing quickly. Or perhaps someone here has a scientific reason behind why dropping more than 1kg per week is un-benificial?

Good on you, no point dehydrating though unless your around the 5% mark so going by your numbers (99kg @ 15%) you would likley need to be around 88kg to see any effect.

What sort of diet plan is it?

Don't worry about the large drops its fairly normal. I lost 6.5kg in 3 weeks and have been sitting at 84.5kg for about 4 weeks. I have found you will normally get big drops followed by large plateaus so just stick to your diet and cardio and it will start moving again.

I like the "started off skinny" and at 97kg comment

I've got some pics that I should show you so you understand what starting off skinny really means.

Get you body fat measured by the same reliable person every other week, so you can tell if your dropping fat or muscle. If it's fat then all good.

I reckon! We should start a "Before Photos" topic in the Post Your Pics forum.

Wouldn't have a clue. First time I ever got tested was a week ago. I think after the bulk I would have been around 20 - 22%. Guessing though. The pics I posted in the NZBB before set is me after the bulk, somebody better qualified could maybe guess it better than I can.
