A hunk of spunk huh? Got some pix for proof of this comment and modest response? I am waiting for some good advice from you Mr Natural if you have any for a newbie wanting to enhance her appearance. Or are we just going to receive smart arse one liners :wink:

Wow cool! I wondered who to turn to. My bod is really good...very trim. Just want to focus on a more athlectic muscle tone. I realise most of it is genetic, but I know there is something I can do to get a little bit bigger and slightly more cut. I am not sure whether I have potential to compete, however it could be a possible goal to go for. I am a very shy person, but it would do me wonders to get out there and show off all the hard work I put into my body!

Good on you eatme you have a really positive attitude and have said your trim at the moment so that is the best start you can get. You'll go far with this positiveness!

Apart from attending a gym where abouts are you meant to get a satisfactory reading for fat test ect. I am very curious to know what my stats are. Because I have only really trained in cardio I feel my fat content may be quite high. What is the fat content one is best to maintain re my height and weight ect?

A certain amount of body fat is vital for the body to function normally and healthy. In fact striving for a body fat percentage that is too low can be dangerous.

Measuring your body fat percentage calculates your total body fat. This total body fat can be split into 2 categories…

Storage Fat — This consists mainly of fat deposited just under the skin or subcutaneous fat. Storage fat for men and women is fairly similar. For the average man 12% of bodyweight is storage fat and for the average woman 15% of bodyweight is storage fat.

Essential Body Fat — For the body to function normally and healthily a certain amount of body fat is required. This is called essential fat. For women the average amount of essential fat is 12% of bodyweight and for men it is 3%. Trying to achieve a body fat percentage that is so low it affects your essential fat stores is NOT a good idea. Even some storage fat is required for good health to protect internal organs in the chest and abdomen.

Body Fat Levels are different for both men and women. An average man has around 17% Body fat and women has around 23%. The higher levels in women are due to estrogen hormone in women. Women need this extra fat as it helps in producing offspring.

Ideal Range

Men - Range is between 10 and 18%. Average is 17%.

Women - Range is between 16 and 26%. Average is 23%

Essential Levels

Men - 3-5%

Women - 10-12%

In addition to the gender differences , body fat levels vary with age and athletic training.

Competitive athletes generally have lower levels depending on sport they participate and their genetics.

As you age your body fat percentage increases and lean body mass decreases.

as for getting a test done im not sure who does them besides personal trainers, is there a particular reason you dont want to get it done at the gym ?
