r u kiddng me? Mate, the methodology is the same whether you're tall or short. If you aren't training right and eating right, doesn't matter what your height is. Look at Coleman, you think what he's got came more easier than someone like Priest?

to each his own anyway...

Either way, both guys are below 6 foot. When I start seeing 6'4" Mr. Olympias I'll be convinced otherwise.

greg kovacs is one ugly mother f*cker.paper bag man.

yes there are some big tall body builders around but muscle per square inch wise the smaller guys seem to have that thicker blockier look generally, i mean imagine lou fergino with arms as thick as lee prest for his height! or tony freeman with legs as thick as tom platz,it just does not seem to happen.

look at pumping iron for example, franko and arnold posing off for the overall, arnold very tall and long, franko very short and short limbs, totally different bone and muscle stuctures, both had alot of muscle but franko has a much blockier look.

Arnold looks way better though!go the tall guys! :P

Poor excuse about height guys!

Lou Ferrgno 6'5, Quincy Taylor 6'4, Ralf Moeller 6'5, Toney Freeman 6'2, Greg Kovacs 6'2 and that is to name only a few.

Poor excuse about the height? Are you taking the piss??

Ok, for me to hold on to my current weight (close to 120kg and lean) takes a hell of a lot more food than someone shorter and under a hundred kilos.

It also takes a lot more to fill out due to the muscle facia being much longer than a shorter man. It is not harder to put on muscle being taller, but it is harder to have the appearance of being muscular (well in a bodybuilding perspective anyway).

Think of a pivot point in a crane, the closer the weight to the axis the less energy/strength required to lift the object. Tall guys have longer limbs and have to produce more power to lift the same weight at a further distance from the body. I have a good half a metre more to lift on my deads than my 5 foot 8 training buddy - while we are talking about size here, the two are linked in with muscle stimulation none the less.

Naming a few pro tall BB'ers doesn't mean jack think of the hundreds of short ones that show the trend. If they were shorter they would look more musclular.

Have a chat to Ulburg next time your in the gym Big Gurl, hes got 20 years experience on both of us and fully agrees with me. He isn't exactly tall either.

"I dont eat carbs" (they dont ask, they quote)

or "Ive cut out all my carbs, but I still dont lose weight" My response "so you only eat proteins and fat now!?"

Since when did vegetables come off the carb list?

Personally I dont think Greg Kovacs belongs in the same class as the others.(no disrepect to the man).

Lou and Ralf were Mr Universe winners and Olympia contenders and Toney is a top pro and Olympia contender also, but Greg was not at the same level as those guys.

Sure his lifts and bodyweight were impressive but his proportions were not, as evidenced by his pro placings.

He got beaten soundly by competitors of all weights and heights in the pro's, which just shows that genetics, distribution of mass, proportion and symmetry are required to be competitve at that level.

I think the tall/short man argument usually only comes into play only when the competitors are of similar/even mass/conditioning.Where the taller man may get the nod.

I'm thinking of Labrada/Haney, Gaspari/Haney,etc.

Also an interesting point is that a truely tall or short man hasn't won the Olympia since the Arnold/Franco era. The last three have been around 5'10-5'11.

With Lee Priest, pound for pound he is as massive as anyone, however when compared to Ronnie I agree that the judges (right or wrongly) would probably give the good big man the nod rather than the good shorter man.

Pull your undies out your ass for a second, I didn't say it was easy Sam, just saying their are some awesome BBs that are tall fellas. Joe is a good mate and I understand the concept, the symmetry and look is different but it is doable.

I just kinda think its weird when people say its almost easier for shorter people to gain size than it is for taller people, its dam hard for everyone and I put it the same category as when people say "yeah its so easy for those guys on steroids, if I went on the gear I'd look like that too".

Anyways, a shorter guy is never going to have the presence of a taller person. I met the guy Shane Cameron is fighting yesterday, the mofo is like 6 foot 8! Scary as hell with that much frame leaning over you regardless of body mass haha

opp's misread that one!~

Yep, exactly what I meant. It is easier for a shorter person to look more muscular than a tall person.

Like I said, 10kg on a short person has more of an impact than 10kg on a tall person. Too short and you just don't have the presence on stage it seems, too tall and you would spend many more years playing the mass game than the shorter fella.

Well said biggurl!

The opinion that small guys put on size easier than their taller counterparts would only come form tall skinny guys? Maybe they should try training and dieting harder!

guess I started everyone on this one about the height but here it is plain and true, it's not easier for someone shorter to gain muscle, it is easier for them to look 'blockier' if they have it because of stature but it's not EASIER to gain muscle, you still have to train hard and eat right. There are different body types in all statures so a 'jockey' type bod in short guy finds it hard to put on mass and look blockie just as the tall thin waifers find it hard. My wife does nutrition for people from all walks of life so she's pretty much seen it all.

On a note from her:

'We are all different ( thankgod  ) with different levels of determination. Goals are similar but still 'different' and life is as 'hard' (including training) as we want to make it. Just be the best that 'you' can be and don't worry about your neighbour..let him take care of his own back yard.

Laugh and have fun man....laugh and have fun

SHALL WE MOVE ON?
