Mental block!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am very new here, but have been doing the training thing pretty consistently for about 3 years now, and having lost a bit of weight and noticed a huge change in my body shape, I start to really lose motivation and it's almost like I subconsciously will myself to fail if that makes any sense? I can go about 4 weeks guns blazing absolutely no 'cheating' then I get so sick of it all....

Any suggestions or advice on overcoming this mental block?

What is guns blazing, does that mean you don't take a break off your diet/nutirition plan even for one day of the weekend?

Do you have goals and are they clearly defined and written down.

I struggle to train if I have something to train for myself.

I'm sure that wasn't really what he meant to say. I think Michael missed out the crucial "don't".

He's right though - clearly defined goals will help. As will being realistic about how strict with the program you need to be. Of course the stricter you are, the better your progress will be, but remember you're only human, and the occasional cheat will make you feel 10x better.

Take a photo every 4 weeks is another good idea - sometimes the scale doesn't change but a photo will never lie. often a good result is hidden by a weight of body fat measurment - sometimes better to focus on the good and not the bad ;)

... off the topic but just wanted to say it took me a bit to recognise Mikes bicep in his avatar pic - sick bro .... that things out-of-control!

  • 2 weeks later...

I believe if you aren't dieting for a comp, you should have a cheat day every week, go out for dinner have something nice and have a rest day.

Recording your progress, and setting a goal i.e. body fat percentage, certain measurements and weight loss .5-1kg per week depending on what you are doing.

Mix your training programme up every 4 weeks, in fact change an exercise as when you like to make it more interesting, push for heavier and better form each time concentrating on the bodypart you are training before you get to the gym and whilst training. Try some group fitness classes for cardio as these can be more fun than sitting on a piece of equipment  Get a friend to join you, motivating them, motivates you!
