Are the gas mafia pissing anyone else off with their what seem like relentless price hikes? Its pushing the price of everything up! 2.12 ffs at this rate we'll be paying $5 a litre in no time.

I'll be boycotting BP (BLATENT PROFITEERS) and the others for that matter and stick to gull and challenge if possible.

the only solution to rising gas prices that i can see in the near future is stop driving. use electric public transport..... oh yeah that's right aucklands public transport is all diesel. yeah we're screwed until nuclear power comes to NZ so we can make enough hydrogen to replace the petrol vehicle fleet nation wide. and that won't happen in the next 20 years. so get ready for a big price rise in everything, and a massive recession

Try driving a V8!!

I drive a V8, thanks to my company I dont pay for fuel.

bastard.

Lol, still feel terrible for those who are already struggling and then have to find the money to enable them to buy petrol just to get to work. Most of the money paid for in fuel is taxes however you think we are going to get a tax break, f*ck no, to much money to be made for the government.

The other suggestion was having a tax break on food to help with this issue, this is also IMO another dead end as this is also a massive revenue gainer.

If this is to be stopped there needs to be massicve pressure put on the government to reduce taxes at least for fuel, you think they pay for gas, hell no, every tax payer in NZ pays for their petrol.

A few years ago there was the saga in the UK I remember reading about, prices were so high the people of the country created such an uproar prices had to be reduced. Tankers blocked service stations from having petrol delivered, there was massive uproar. Good times.

Watch the news, that is happening around the world as we speak. NZ has one of the highest taxes on gas in the world (currency rates aside) the only chance we have of getting petrol tax reduced is make it an ellection issue.

problem is if the gov reduces the tax on petrol, the rd maintenance will decline, acc services will lower. As far as i know that is what most of the tax pays for. best solution is to buy an electric motor bike. or a scooter. lower your petrol costs and reduces commute and parking issues.

With the $10.6 billion dollar surplus the goverment has as of this month im sure we taxpayers are entitled to a taxbreak on either petrol or food. Or at the very least a free 6 months reg on personal vehicles. All registration is is another tax and you pay tax to buy one!

I think you will find that this is only a recent thing! A few years ago a large percentage just went into the government coffers until AA and a few lobby groups kicked up a stink and made the public aware.

As Keats pointed out we all pay $180 bucks a year for car rego, do the math and you will realise just how much we are taxed.

With the cost petrol going up all the time. The price of petrol these days could have a effect on people or familes who are on tight bugget when it comes to filling there car up at the petrol station.I use the bus instead which is a lot more cheaper or walk.

The tax from petrol goes into the general tax fund that the govt gets, it's not kept separate to fund roading projects. So a good portion of your petrol tax goes to fund someones dole, hospitals, schools, etc.

It shouldn't be that way, but the govt doesn't seem to work for us voters anymore.

Time to get motorbikes people! With a decent set of gear you can still get to work dry, in half the time and 1/4 the fuel. you dont get stuck in traffic and they they are hell fun to ride! actualy a motorbike mechanic so if you want sum advice just ask. but theyr well worth the investment. and as for v8s, i can still afford to use mine on weekends coz of the money saved during the week!
