Big Mike Debenham in the new Flex!

Recommended Posts

Yep - it's great to see Mike D in the Flex magazine. They occasional have Kiwi bodybuilders featured ... hopefully we'll see plenty more!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Mike goes at Nationals this year when he defends his Overall title!

Thanks Guys for the kind words! was pretty cool, as came home from my honeymoon, and the first text i got was to tell me about the mag. I did the interveiw just after nationals so had kinda forgot it was going to be in at some stage.

BUT as much i am excited about the Nationals this year being in wellington ALAS i will not be on stage.

WHY?

Because I am hoping (all going to the approval of the IFBB) i will be representing NZ at the next AUST PRO SHOW.

After nearly 10yrs of dreaming about being a Pro i am making the application and hopefully will hear in the not too distant future. i look fwd to being back on stage with a more Heavy Weight package and would like to be back in the same condition and size that allowed me to win the 2000nats in wellington i think then i was about 99kg.

Mike D

As you know, Mike - you have my 100% support behind your IFBB Pro card application, as I'm sure the rest of the NZFBB Executive will give you. There isn't an amateur male bodybuilder in NZ who deserves this more than you!

Isn't it exciting to think we could have four NZ IFBB Pro bodybuilders contesting the 2009 Australian Pro show!? It wasn't long ago that people were moaning that we didn't have enough Pro bodybuilders or that it was next to impossible for a NZ bodybuilder to qualify for this status.

It also means (assuming as expected that Mike is granted an IFBB Pro card) there will be a new NZFBB Overall Men's champion this year - I wonder who it will be?

If he turns up in the same nick as last year i hope it's daniel hibbs.

He has impressed me more than any other bodybuilder i have seen on stage yet.

He is not a big guy but he has got a flawless physique and is all class.

That's a good call, diamond - especially as Daniel was 2nd to Mike in the Overall judging last year.

With the Open Men's classes now in 10kg divisions (vs the 5kg divisions as they were prior to 2007 e.g. Under 65kg, 65-70kg, 70-75kg etc) there will probably be some great lineups and battles in the individual classes before we even get to the Overall judging.

Who are the four possibles?

Mike D, Mike K and Salah...who's the 4th?
