HOT TOPIC: Worst thing you've eaten in the name of training?

With the recent posts about tuna shakes and even worse - raw liver shakes, I was wondering what's the worst thing you've ever eaten (or drunk) as part of your training?

I'll start off with:

1. A shake made with Brewers Yeast powder, milk and raw eggs. Terrible indeed - this is what they give you to drink in hell!

2. Tribulus powder. When I ran out of vegecaps and didn't want to miss my daily dose, I thought I could just chug the contents of 3 of the caps with some water. There is a technique to that and if you get it wrong....beware! The taste doesn't go away for a long while. :pale:

Any other horror stories out there?

My first attempt at egg white omlettes was pretty nasty. It was mostly (perhaps entirely) made of egg whites, and it was cooked in the microwave. This produces a grey, rubbery thing that reeks of sulphur. I ate it. But I never cooked it that way again.

There was also an unfortunate incident involving porridge and tuna. Thankfully, the details of that memory seem to have been suppressed - it was obviously all too traumatic for me.

My own home made protien bars an all round disaster, never tried again but i forced everyone of them down though.

Oh, jeez... I'd forgotten about them!

Being of a scientific nature, I experimented with three batches - each one slightly different. It was all I could do to gag down half of one batch. The other two were completely inedible. God, that was a sad day, having to admit defeat, and wasting these huge slabs of high-protein concrete. :(

protein bar recipe:

1 cup of peanut butter

8 spoons of honey

1 cup of whey

1 cup of oatmeal.

Heat Peanut butter and honey in microwave for 90 secs.

Mix in whey and and oatmeal.

WARNIN : THE HEATED PEANUT BUTTER AND HONEY WILL BE VERY HOT. DONT JUST STICK YOUR HANDS IN OR YOU WILL BE BURNT.

mix in thoroughly.

set in a 13 by 9 tray and allow to cool.

Cut in slabs later on, wrap and refrigerate.

Very nutritious,

loads of good carbs, fats and proteins.

Wouldnt reccomend these for some on a cut diet generally.

But great for that high calorie quick fix or missed meal etc.

best,

V.V.

Hard to pin it on any one food - worst thing would have to be a 1200 cal ketogenic diet - I managed 18 days on Flax seed oil and whey protein - the first 8 or so were solely flax oil and whey (plus orange metamucil for fibre), and then added some tuna and mayo, cheese and eggs. Lost a lot of fat but was pretty sick of it by the end and was really happy when I added carbs back in.

This is followed closely by the Body Opus Diet - cheese, eggs, tuna, mayo, steak, flax oil, whey protein for 5 days followed by 2 days carbo loading - eating every 2 hours or so - liquid glucose, maltodextrin, dextrose powder. Did this for around 14 weeks total in prep for summer a couple of times - in cycles of about 4 to 6 weeks. Lost stacks of fat and gained a fair bit of muscle but haven't been brave enough to attempt it again.

Hehehe, Body Opus! Lost seven kilos in two and a half weeks on that before I got REAL sick and also developed a nasty case of scabies....moral of the story: Make sure you get your vitamins when doing stupid diets!

Worst meal: Egg white ommlette with a tin of cold tuna wrapped inside. That was nice....

tuna is the most evil thing to have without covering in chilie sauce and warming up. I went to a gym once where they sold protein shakes.

2 scoops of growth

2 cups of milk

1 tble spoon flax seed oil

1 banana

and a can of tuna in there for good measure

I never worked up the courage to try it, but the protein hit would have been enough to knock out an elepahnt,
