Lower pecs help

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Im wanting to address the difference in size between one lower pec and the other....not quite sure how they got this way exactly.....but anyhow.... Have ditched the decline smith machine presses and am thinking dumbell declines alternating arm (ie one at a time so I can concentrate more on a good even squeeze) and also wide grip dips with a little forward body lean. Any other ideas?

Cheers

ds :)

no previous injury history? Otherwise I have trained with soccer players and they always had one leg larger and stronger than the other. use single weight ex's i.e dumbbells and work to the weakest side. that is if one side can do 10 and the other 15, work to the ten. this way (by theory given to me) they should even up...... its what i have heard anyways

You have asked how to shape a muscle before and obviously didn't get the answer you were wanting. Genetics will dictate muscle shape and symetry. You may want to try doing flat dumbell press and adding another rep or two with the lacking side.

Add some more mass and the difference in size will be minimalised.

Like Frogie, I'd try switching the chest exercises to dumbells as much as possible. That prevents your stronger (and bigger) side from carrying the weaker side.

It could also be an issue with the mind-muscle connection. Maybe some swiss-ball dumbell presses (focus mentally on really squeezing the lagging side) would help?

Thanks for the replies. I do dumbells for everything as it is and am equally strong in both sides - it may therefore come down to genetics to a certain extent i guess......but in the past I did have a lat slightly higher than the other also and close gip pulldowns fixed that (paying particular attention to get a good stretch and squeeze on both sides), so Im guessing that I can correct this pec problemto a certain extent also......

give it a go and see how it works. once you mentioned i dug up some muscle mags to see if nay of the pros might have this problem, nothing noticeable. i wonder if they have this problem?

Probably because they have enough mass on them for it not to be noticable. That and possibly synthol site injections to equal out the small miss proportions.

I have a rip in my chest that only gets bigger with every kilo I gain. No biggie tho

Deepsouth, You could try using a bi Lateral dip machine(plate loaded) and bookending your sets.(doing twice as many on your weaker side as your stronger. Perhaps 2 sets with both arms pressing down then a further two with just your less developed side.

You could apply this extra volume into all your exercises if need be (dec Dumbell Chest Press, Dec Flyes etc).

The atrophy or lack of development could also be nerve damage between your head and the motor units in your pec.

Have you ever injured/torn your pec/tricep or shoulder? This could explain the size/shape difference.

I also have one hole side (left side) that is bigger and more defined.

Here is my theory lol.

I have always made the left side of my body lift the same weight as my right side (because i didn't want to be lop sided). BUT........ I think power to weight ratio my right side is always going to be stronger!! There for, by me pushing my left side of my body to do the same weights as my right side, my left side had to be bigger........ Because its not as strong if it were the same size. If you can understand what I'm getting at????

Just a theory............ what you reckon????

Yep agree .....we were over this topic along time ago,

I think that what people are saying is right in that your non-dominant side tends to become bigger to compensate for your dominant side being more proficient...the neural pathways between mind and muscle are alot more defined on your dominant side as it is also which will also be a factor in this and motor recruitment / muscle fibre activation etc.

So, just to let people know Im not a gym retard when it comes to exercises and that I have tried everything ex wise, tried developing my pecs evenly and from all angles and thats just the way they have turned out and thats what Im putting it down to....

End of topic please
