Getting Lightheaded while some exercises??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I get lightheaded only when i perform the following exercises - (started these about a month) Deadlifts 60kgs (90 kgs max) , Squats (60kgs), and Leg preses (120kgs). I go gym at 6am in mornings. (if that helps)

I get lightheaded for approx 10sec after every set, even with light weights.

I dont get lightheaded when performing any other exercises like other back or chest or shoulders.

Just wondering why? Is it in my head :).

Thanks.

It's most likely that your breathing technique needs improving...

yr not breathing right, lack of oxygen to yr brain

I usually take a sec break after each rep for deadlifts, while doing a set of 8. And i breathe in while lifting the weights and breathe out while placing the weights down.

I do the same breathing for other exercises too. umm...

take a deep breath before you lift on the deadlift, breathe out on lowering; on squat deep breath before going down and breathe out slowly as you drive up (try not to hold breath while pushing - elevates blood pressure immensely and pops your eyes out - eh LJ altho you were squatting nearly 400kg!), same on bench. Your going to see a few stars on a very heavy set of any of these, that's normal. Also consider some food pre-training as low blood sugars can result in dizziness also and you'll be stronger!

Do you recommend actually eating a little bit before i go?

Your kidding right? I eat as much as I can up till 30min before I train. Don't know how people workout on an empty stomach.

Take a flat coke/carbo cola/water with dextrose when you are doing heavy compounds and drink it between sets - helps bring the blood sugar level back up and keep the energy rushing.

As for lack of breath - deadlifts and squats are pretty straining, if you are going to failure then it is understandable you are going to be a bit puffed and dizzy.

I am trying to get lean, so i do cardio for 20min before any workouts, so i cant eat a lot, or i cant do cardio. (probably get stiches). Also i go to gym at 6am. But i will try the flat coke. I do have black coffee with sugar in it, that has been helping me with cardio, Sweating a lot :)

Thanks Samwelly.

Dizzy spells can also be an indicator of low iron levels.

Well i do not get any dizzy spells when im working any other muscles and doesnt matter how hard i go as well. But even light weight on legs, gets small dizzies :)

i think its the breathing. Well ill find out this week..and let you know..

personally i get the odd dizzy stages during the work out, but is is normally due to lack of energy. (ei. food) in the system. might i suggest pushing the workout until later after a reasonable breakfast. You'll be surprised how fast it can digest prior to a work out

groovy is following a 'body for life' style to loosing weight, which has been proven effective, another way to do it may be to do the weights first, followed by the cardio. i think psu talked about having your shake during your cardio afterwards.

just a thought :shifty:

Cool, i didnt know what i was doing, is 'Body for Life' style. By the time i do all the weights, i get quite tired, as im trying to go hard, i dont think i can do cardio after that. But thanks, i will try and do the breathing properly and see if that works. If not then ill the weights first and then cardio.

Doing the cardio at 140BPM, approx for 20mins, seems to working pretty good. Lost a bit of beer belly, starting to look like a flat tummy. Not too far away to shed some light on those hidden SIX pack. Yay :)

Ofcourse the diet, and all your suggestions being helping me a lot. Thanks to all of you.

y dont u eat a little more.....then do ur weights first ..... and then cardio after ur weight session..... just a thought.......

Hi guys, Just an update regarding the lightheaded issue, I did my Leg workout today, as suggested by 2guns and others with the breathing technique, and it worked great.

I did squats upto 70kgs (only beginner) for first time, other legs workouts and also during the deadlifts and i didnt get dizzy.

Well only a little bit dizzy while performing the Legpress (approx at 120kgs), but lot less dizziness than what i previously had.

Thanks guys.
