NZFBB Auckland Champs

Recommended Posts

I might be wrong but I was looking at some of the photos on another website and noticed the mens classic winner up on stage for overalls. Has NZFBB changed its stance on this?

PS well done to all who competed the photos look good all round.

Maybe they could do seperate catogories for most entertaining posing routine and best poser (M and F).

That way it would satisfy the BBuilding purests as well as people wanting a more lively routine.

Personally, I agree with Evie in that I prefer traditional posing, executed creatively and well, but what i'm finding from watching alot of shows is that a large section of the crowd seem to enjoy the instant gratification of a sexed up or dance style routine.

I think alot of the friends and family in the crowd who aren't really keen followers of the sport tend to associate these types of routines as being more entertaining because that is what they are used to seeing in the mainstream media/TV etc.

I'd hate to think that you would lose placings if you could pose and showcase your physique well but couldn't do a dance style routine because imo it's about showcasing your physique effectively and I believe that poses do that job better than dance moves or hip thrusts, even if they don't get the crowd going as much.

However I do enjoy both styles and think that both can be intergrated into a routine e.g I enjoyed Joraslav's posing to an Air Supply ballad as much as Melvins posing/dancing at the recent Elite/pro show.

Hi everyone!

I am "da girl in da blue skirt". Been very interesting reading what's been said about me! But as a novice competitor I really appreciate the feedback and the honesty of all those who have participated.

It's true, I do have a professional dance background, and being a novice it felt the most natural thing to do. I know I have a lot more work to do and plan to integrate posing and dancing a lot more in the future, but make it more suited to these competitions. So watch this space!!!

In fairness, they cut off my routine abruptly and I didn't get to finish - there was a lot more posing to come. Anyway, didn't have a choice.

I had`a fantastic day though and really enjoyed chatting to other competitors. Congrats to all who made the nationals - you deserve it!

See you there!

...What do you consider a stripper routine when she didn't get time to finish her routine.

Yes, unfortunately Jo had a 1min 26 second routine, so I had to fade it out at about 1min 10. It certainly was a great routine, but I had to be fair to those competitors who stick to the required limit.

The only routines that are allowed to be more than 60 seconds are for competitors in Fitness and Mixed Pairs - they can have up to 90 seconds. Approx 20 competitors had routines on Saturday night between 62 and 70 seconds so I let them go the full distance, even though at some shows they get pedantic and cut them at exactly 60 seconds.

Yeah, sorry about that, hopefully what I've posted above will explain why this was done.

I'm assuming someone told you that routines could be up to 90 seconds? I find it interesting at most comps how much mis-information is out there and how some competitors are really let down by not being given the right info about class selection, costumes, routine duration, tanning etc.

I reckon I'll start a new topic to find out more about where people get their info and ways that we can make sure competitors don't get a shock on the day of the event?!

At such a small show you would think they would allow those that put the hard work into a routine.. (this can meen its longer, but most of all, exciting and entertaining) to finish.

Alot of hard work goes into preping for a comp as you all know, so at the smaller shows why not give the few who are 10-15 seconds over that time to finish?

I mean the crowd pays good money to see a good show and there putting on the best ones but getting cut off :-s

Im shit at routines and would happily not go on to allow a few competitors the extra time they need to finish there awesome routines!!

Just a wee thing I thought was a shame. Apart from the posing routines, only the place getters came out on stage at night, so it must be dissapointing for athletes that have supporters at the night show only see them for their routine, although I am still annoyed with Nabba, one good thing is that they bring everybody out do a couple of compulsories for the crowd, I understand only doing the top three at Nationals but is this how all NZFBB regionals go?

It's a difficult situation, Big_J, and as I've already mentioned I did allow the many competitors with routines over 60 seconds up to 10 seconds extra ... and 34 of the 46 competitors had routines more than 60 seconds, but most of those 34 were less than 70 seconds. A couple used full-length tracks of 4-5 minutes duration but they generally got to 60 seconds, waved and left the stage.

Competitors need to know the rules because I've been to several shows where routines are cut dead at 60 seconds sharp - no exceptions.

Yea, i know where your coming from as a organiser but then also as a competitor you know what i mean..

Did the teenage boy get to do his routine and get his prize etc? i know he arrived at six, he went to talk to mark and got told to "piss off"

The guy was late yea, but marks the president of the organistion and id think that he could have fitted the guy on in a novice class as so many classes were joint. He put alot of effort in and im sure it wouldnt have been to hard to fit him in, unless ofc they did?

Yeah, I do appreciate both sides of the argument as both an organiser and a competitor. Of course, Mark was the organiser of last weekends comp - I was just there to help out, but I did make the decisions on when to fade the music out.

Apparently the young man in question told Mark he believed he was there on time - thinking the show started at 6pm. I was stage marshall at both Auckland regional events last year and at one of them we had to delay the start of the show because 3 of the 4 or 5 Teenage & Junior men competitors hadn't turned up by 5pm. It caused a significant delay to the start of the show - I can't recall but I think we may have started with the Masters Men to give these young guys more time. In the end they finally made it, but at least 30 minutes late and really unfair to everyone - especially the two other competitors who were there on time and had to wait so long! The guys who turned up late didn't even say sorry and thought the whole thing was a joke!

So, I'm not surprised Mark wasn't at all impressed by this guy not bothering to check the times (or listen at the briefing when all competitors were told more than once to be at the venue no later than 4:30pm)... if someone gets held up for no fault of their own, that's a different story.

Big J did you hear mark say piss off to the boy, as I was there and all I saw was mark give him two thing as a prize and than mark came over to where I was and I said to mark thank you for doing that as I know the boy very well.

I had an interesting Auckland champs experience and thought you guys wouldn’t mind me sharing……

I was sitting across the aisle from two Pro Bodybuilders and sponsors of the event. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed in their behaviour. They talked, laughed and texted their way through the whole show. Obviously, a little bit of talking is expected but their talking was not only incessant, it was also quite loud and disruptive. I sat for quite a while trying to ignore the problem, but then I just thought that I’d ask them to keep it down a little.

During a short break in the show I bent down (so as not to be intimidating or cause a scene hahaha as if I could intimidate these two fellas) and said “I’m sure that when you guys are on stage people don’t talk and laugh the whole time, it would be nice to show some respect for these competitors”. The response I received was utterly astounding “Lady, how much did you pay to be here? I’ve paid more than you to be here because I sponsor the event, so I’ll do what I like”.

It was a shame that this sort of mentality shone through and two athletes at the top of their sport were unable to show some respect to amateur athletes who may aspire to emulate their success. That’s exactly the attitude bodybuilders are infamous for and it’s a shame it continues.

Anyway, enough of the negative stuff. Raechelle was amazing and depressing all at the same time. One day in a million years I might look like that :P Physical Edge - great to hear from you! I loved your routine too. I understand that it may have been considered a little to ‘dancy’ but your confidence and presentation was exceptional

Some great guys in the over 80kg class too. Will make for a good competition come Nationals. Great work to everyone who competed!

Raechelle looks to have made big progress since last years Nth. Harbour with NABBA. I believe she is working with Jo Stewart so that would explain the improvements. Learning from one of NZ's very best.

With regard to the pro's talking/texting etc throughout the show: A good example of courtesy towards competitors during their posing comes from Pumping Iron where Arnold(who was near the peak of his confidence/over the top personality for the movie) still only whispers during the other competitors pre judging.

Even the world's best had the humility and courtesy to not talk loudly through out another competitors routine.
